Sierra Verde Weekly Update

February 26, 2021

A Week of Engineering

We've concluded another busy week on campus and many STEM projects were on display in celebration of National Engineering Week. Using the Engineering Design Process, teachers prepared lessons that integrated engineering concepts across the curriculum in honor of National Engineering Week.

Thanks to all of you who joined us through Zoom for our virtual conferences this week as we are now headed into the last 2 weeks of 3rd quarter. Please encourage your kids to finish the quarter strong as we head into Spring Break!

Developing Coping Skills

In light of the pandemic, has a phenomal article that outlines "5 Ways to Help Kids Who Struggle with Self-Control". The key takeaways are:

  1. Give Words to Feelings
  2. Find Your Child's Trigger(s)
  3. Stick with What She Loves
  4. Be Present and Understanding
  5. Seek Help When Needed

We are ready, willing, and trained to partner with all our families, especially when it comes to the mental and social-emotional help of our Vipers. If you need resources or referrals please give our office a call and we will help you seek support on and off campus at SV.

March Spirit Week

Next week Student Council has organized our March Spirit Week! Be sure to see the flyer below as we celebrate Spirit Week and Read Across America Week as Tuesday is Dr. Seuss Day as well.

Field Day 2021

This week we have solidified our Field Day dates, and our PE team is excited to announce that on March 11 & 12 we will have three different sessions by grade bands. Thursday morning will be Middle School, Thursday afternoon will be 4-6 Grade, and Friday Morning will be our K-3 Field Day. Be sure to send students dressed for a fun day as we head into Spring Break!

Tax Time

Don't miss out on making your money count this tax season! Make a Tax Credit Donation directly to Sierra Verde online at or drop a check/money order off in the front office.

A state tax credit will allow you to reduce the amount of your tax liability to the state OR increase your refund from the state. Anyone with or without children, married or single is eligible for this unprecedented state tax credit up to $400 married/$200 single (please consult your tax advisor to determine how the tax credit will affect your personal tax return).

Donations received between January 1 - April 15 can be applied to previous year taxes or the current year Arizona state taxes.

Connecting with your Teen

This week we want to highlight a resource that relates to our second-step Social Emotional Learning Curriculum at Sierra Verde. ParentTeenConnect is a companion website for parents to visit to learn how to address topics such as screen time, communication, decision making, and responsibility for middle school students. We would like to encourage you to take a minute to visit this resource and open up a conversation with your son or daughter this weekend. The importance of dialogue and communication is vital in the development of all kids.

Covid Reporting/Face Mask/Water Bottle Reminder

As always, please continue to report a positive Covid result for any student, or a confirmed close contact with a positive person. Once you are aware of either of these two circumstances, please report the positive result or close contact using the DVUSD reporting tool. This will then notify Sierra Verde and we will get in touch with you to determine how long the student must quarantine before returning to campus.

DVUSD New Early Relase from Close Contact Quarantine Policy:

A student can be released early from the 10 day quarantine and may return on Day 8 or after if the student receives a negative COVID-19 test result beginning on Day 6 of the quarantine or after and the student has been symptom free since exposure. (Day 0 is the most recent date of close contact exposure to the COVID-19 positive person.) Proof of a negative test must be provided to the school before the student will be allowed to return.

Also, please remember to send students to school with a refillable water bottle or hydroflask that they can refill throughout the day along with at least two facemasks in case they get dropped or soiled. We always have extras of both on campus, but we are quickly running through our supply.

Have a Great Weekend!
