Principal's Corner
Volume VIII - February 13, 2018
What did the students say?
- Mrs. Evans should be teacher of the month because she is so kind. She really cares about the well being of each and every student. If I ever had a problem she would always be there to help me get through it.
Notes from the RHS Administrative Team
Mid-year PDPs should be complete at this time.
- Coaches, once you select rosters, all SPRING sports rosters should be posted in OneNote here: Athletic Team Rosters (Web view)
- Please continue to make parent communication a priority by calling the parents/guardians of at-risk students.
- THANK YOU for your diligent work completing the EVAAS roster verification process. You received high praise from the OCS Testing and Accountability department!
- We will transition to the new website on April 2. The old SchoolInSites page data will be unavailable beginning on April 18.
- The City of Jacksonville is in need of students to join the Youth Council. They are especially looking for representation from Richlands, Dixon, Southwest, and Swansboro. Ask your students to visit https://jacksonvillenc.gov/youthsummit to join.
- This year's computer virus has caused a few teachers to begin reaching their 10,000 copy limit. This limit was for the year, but we understand you may need some additional copies. We ask you to try to use Office 365 and Teams as much as possible, so we can continue budgeting money for classroom supplies, textbooks, technology, etc. for next year. Because of your tremendous effort to reduce copies last year, we were able to purchase $30,000 in classroom supplies this year based on your specific requests. To request additional copies, please let Mrs. Willaford know.
From the EC Department:
Thank you!
Cassie

Grant Opportunities
Duke Energy North Carolina Match Offer
I’m excited to share news about a grant we’re launching on #GivingTuesday in partnership with DonorsChoose.org.
Duke Energy will provide $175,000 in matching grants for North Carolina teachers to foster literacy and bring engaging science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) projects to life in their classrooms.
Here is how it works: Teachers in your district can submit K-3 literacy and K-12 STEM project proposals (for up to a total project goal of $1,000) to DonorsChoose.org, where the public can provide funding.
The Duke Energy Foundation will match all donations made toward these classroom projects at public schools in eligible counties*, up to $500 a project. The project donations will be matched on a first-come, first-served basis until the $175,000 goal is reached. For example, if you donated $50 toward an eligible project, a $50 Duke Energy match will automatically be applied to the project.
Teachers can visit DonorsChoose.org/teachers to submit a project. Qualifying projects already posted to the site will automatically be eligible for Duke Energy’s matching funds on new donations made on or after Nov. 28.
Parents and other members of the community can help fund projects by visiting www.DonorsChoose.org and searching for projects by school name, teacher name and/or the "North Carolina STEM and Literacy" match filter. DonorsChoose.org will continually update this page with a list of all projects eligible for the Duke Energy match.
You and I both know our children are the future leaders of our communities, and we must support their success. I hope you can share this great news with the teachers, parents and community leaders in your district. If you’re active on social media, consider a post to share this opportunity:
