JUNIOR PARENT COLLEGE INFORMATION MEETING
Grand Blanc High School counselors will be hosting a Junior Parent College Information meeting on Thursday April 12th, from 6:30—7:30 p.m. in the High School East auditorium. Topics that will be covered include senior year planning, college application information, scholarships, testing and financial aid. We would strongly urge you to join us for this short informational meeting
At the conclusion of the junior meeting, there will be a brief parent presentation regarding dual enrollment for anyone who is interested. If you have any questions, please call the Counseling Office at (810) 591-6647.
Website
The Counseling Office is always looking to improve our website! We add new information every day so please let us know if there is something else you would like to see or that would be useful for you or your student. A link to our page can be found by clicking on “Counseling” on the high school website
College Application Process
Seniors are encouraged to continue completing their college applications. It is an honor for a staff member to be asked to write a letter of recommendation and they want to do a good job in representing you to the college of your choice. Please ask well in advance (7-10 days) of the deadline. Thank you!
NCAA/NAIA Registration
Seniors who plan to play Division I or Division II college sports need to apply to the NCAA Clearinghouse online at www.eligibilitycenter.org. Please visit the website or see your counselor with any questions
Scholarships and FAFSA
A list of scholarships is available in the counseling office, in the senior documents file on the main high school webpage, or on the counseling office page. The list is updated every few weeks. Be sure to come check out what opportunities are available for getting money for college!
The FAFSA is now open for the 2018-19 school year! All parents should complete this important document with your senior to see what financial aid you might qualify for. The FAFSA is free to fill our and can be found at www.fafsa.gov. Avoid websites that ask you to pay a fee to submit information for you. Contact the Counseling Office with any questions!
Social Media
The Counseling Office uses the Grand Blanc High School Facebook and Twitter pages to post all upcoming events and important information for students and parents. If you haven’t done so yet, “like” Grand Blanc High School on Facebook or follow “grandblancpride” on Twitter for up to the minute information
College Acceptance
Has your senior been accepted to college?? Have him or her stop by and let us know! We would like to congratulate them on their hard work and success!
College Visits
College reps are visiting us on a weekly basis! For a list of colleges coming to visit please check the television monitor outside of the counseling office and the counseling office website. We are using Remind101 to register students for college visits. The text code for each individual college is provided and students must sign up in advance to attend the meetings. All upcoming visits will be announced on our daily announcements. The list will also be sent to all seniors who have signed up for the senior class remind text. This is an excellent opportunity for students to learn about different colleges and ask questions!
Credit Recovery
Any students who are behind on credit have an opportunity to catch up through the Credit Recovery program. The class meets in room 635 at East Campus on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-4:30. Cost is $100/class unless students qualify for free/reduced lunch. Forms are available in the counseling office.

Attendance
- Students are at risk academically if they miss 10 percent of the school year, or about 18 days. Once too many absences have occurred, they can affect learning, regardless of whether the absences are excused or unexcused.
- Sporadic, not just consecutive, absences matter. Before you know it - just one or two days a month can add up to nearly 10 percent of the school year.
- Avoid unnecessary absences. Some absences are unavoidable. Occasionally, children get sick and need to stay home. What is important is getting children to school as often as possible.
Parents of Seniors & Seniors
Don't forget to order your Cap & Gown! Orders can still be placed through the Jostens website at Jostens.com. The link below is part of the presentation that was shown to Seniors during the senior meeting.
