A Visit from Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Waldman
Last Friday, the 6th grade GT classes were visited by Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Waldman as part of their mock trial unit. The judge, his law clerk, and a court interpreter spoke about careers in the legal profession and then answered student questions on a range of law topics. The students learned a lot from this opportunity to interact with real-world experts. Thank you, Judge Waldman and staff!
Lunar New Year
To celebrate the Lunar New Year, French students learned how to write "Good Luck!" in Chinese, draw a dragon for 2024, and then made wishes for loved ones and people in our school. Some wishes included fun vacations for teachers, new puppies learning to listen, happiness for our parents, success for our fellow students, and a fun/exciting year for our siblings!
Self Love
Students in Mrs. Blaine's Convocation did a self love activity to celebrate themselves and what makes them wonderful people!
My Family, my House and my World
Students represented a family situation emphasizing chores and rooms of the house.
Students will engage in conversations with each other about rooms of a house : Where the rooms are located. How the activities were done in each room varied for different family members and families.
The Case of a Missing Love Letter
Students in Mrs. Vanderheyden's ELA classes worked in teams to solve the case of a missing love letter. Each team was presented with background information and multiple pieces of evidence. In order to determine who took the love letter, students had to critically examine the evidence; synthesizing details and making inferences along the way.
Celebrating Black History Month in 8th Grade ELA
Ms. McLaughlin's ELA classes celebrated Black History Month by reading about Dr. Marting Luther King, Jr. and Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. Then they made "I Have a Dream" mobiles to express their hopes for themselves, their school, and the world. They also watched excerpts from the film "Selma." Students learned how to analyze songs and annotate poetry by reading various African American poets such as Langston Hughes, Claude McKay, Tupac Shakur, and Amanda Gorman.
