State Testing
New Carlisle Elementary - 2021-22 State Assessment
New Carlisle Elementary students will be taking the State Assessment Tests on the following days. Please make sure your child has a good night's sleep, dresses comfortably, has a good breakfast and arrives at school ON TIME. We are testing in the mornings from 9:30-11:00. It would be helpful to make arrangements for doctors appointments around the school day.
Thank you for your help these days.
Attendance Challenge
Some of the greatest benefits for attending school regularly are:
- Achievement: Students who attend school regularly are more likely to pass reading and math assessments than students who do not.
- Opportunity: For older students, being in school every day gives them a chance to learn more about college and scholarship opportunities and to learn the important information to build a successful academic record.
- Exposure to the English language: Regular school attendance can also help students who are learning English by giving them the opportunity to master the skills and information they need more quickly and accurately.
- Being part of the school community: Just by being present at school, your child is learning how to be a good citizen by participating in the school community, learning valuable social skills, and developing a broader world view.
- Follow the school's guidelines and attendance policy and report excused absences immediately. At the beginning of the school year, review the school's rules and make sure you understand who you need to contact if your child is going to be absent.
- Check homework. Check each night to see that your child understands and completes the day's homework assignments.
- Take an active role. Stay involved with your child's daily experiences at school by asking how the school day went, and then listening carefully to what your child shares with you — both the successes and struggles.
- Make it a point to meet your child's teacher(s) and friends.
Our grade levels will be competing against each other for individual prizes to Arrow Queen and a Grade Level Popcorn / Recess Party at the end of the quarter. We are trying to build the resilience and grit of our students by having them understand what it means to have a good work ethic. Teaching them this, will benefit them in the long run when they are in the work force.
We appreciate your support and encouragement in this upcoming challenge. If you have any questions please reach out to the teacher or call the office.
Bullying and Student Threats
A few ways you can help your child:
- Listen to them and give them easy, firm responses to give to the other child. ex. "I don't like that!, Leave me alone!"
- Do not encourage violence or retaliation.
- Make the school aware of the situation.
- Know that if we are aware of the situation we are handling it each and every time it is brought to our attention. If the child does not tell us of the incident we can't intervene.
- Many times a child will say, "I told the teacher and nothing happened." We are handling each situation. Teachers will handle each student kindly, respectfully and privately. Therefore, your child may not see the bully get reprimanded or punished. Know it is happening.
- We also want to work as a team with you and your child.
We are also teaching our students that we DO all make mistakes. If we learn to own the mistake, make it right that then helps to move on from the behavior to be better, that's the key. We are trying to reteach the behaviors we want to see from our students.
One way we do this is by thinking of our E+R=O. (event+response=outcome). We have taught the students to think before acting or responding and to take breath breaks and count to ten. These are strategies that do work, but need to be practiced. Think of how hard it is for adults to handle situations. Many times we as adults overreact and yell at people. We all need to be teaching our children how to pause before responding.

Final Forms
We still have about 52 parents that need to fill out their forms. If you have not yet completed your forms please call the office and we can help you. If the forms are not completed your child will be unable to return to school.
Go into the Final Forms to complete your child's information for this school year. This is our new platform for you to add your phone numbers, doctors numbers, address and other emergency information. You can find the link on our district web page. If you have questions please call the office at 845-4480. We can help you.
Positive Referrals
When students receive a positive referral their photo is taken, the receive a bracelet, candy or a pencil. Additionally, students receiving positive referrals are honored as we hang their photo in the hallway of each student receiving a positive office referral and these students are also honored on our morning announcements which can be viewed on our Youtube channel, and their pictures scroll on the TV in the office. It is really exciting for our students.

Safer Ohio School Tip Line
Safer Ohio School Tip Line
The Safer Ohio School Tip Line is a free safety resource available to all Ohio schools. The tip line is an anonymous reporting system that accepts both calls and texts 24 hours a day.
This tip line allows students and adults to anonymously share information with school officials and law enforcement about threats to student safety—whether that involves a threatened mass incident or harm to a single student.
Things to report to the tip line include (but are not limited to):
Bullying incidents;
Withdrawn student behaviors;
Verbal or written threats observed toward students, faculty or schools;
Weapon/suspicious devices on or near school grounds;
Gang related activities;
Unusual/suspicious behavior of students or staff;
Self-harm or suicidal sentiments; and
Any other school safety related concerns.
Every tip can remain anonymous. School safety analysts may ask for additional information, but the caller can remain secret or leave his or her contact information for later follow-up.
Calls or texts to 844-SaferOH (844-723-3764) are answered by analysts within Ohio Homeland Security. If action is needed, the analysts immediately forward information to local school officials, law enforcement agencies and the Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) for action and follow up.
The OSSC partners with the Ohio Department of Education to follow up with affected school and law enforcement agencies to make sure that the incident is investigated, action is taken and resources and supports are provided when necessary.
Tecumseh Education Connection
The Education Connection is a telephone number that you can call 24-hours a day to listen to your child’s homework assignments, report your child’s absence, hear the lunch menu, find out the scores of the big game, hear about school closings and leave a private message for a staff member.
You will still need to call your child in if they will not be attending school, or doing their online work for the day. We will still need to document attendance. We are marking students with green, yellow and red attendance.

- Leave a voicemail with questions.

Arrival and Dismissal at NCES
Arrival - Please drop off students at the front door no earlier than 8:30 to make a shuttle bus. Students are not able to enter the building prior to 8:30. If your child is having breakfast they can enter at this time. If your child is NOT eating breakfast at school they can arrive at 8:55.
Dismissal - All students will be picked up using the curb lane. Try to not have them walk around the car to enter. This is a safety concern for our students. If you are picking up your child please wait at the light pole by the crosswalk or stand on one of the many red dots.
Thank you for your cooperation. Our students safety is our highest concern.
