From Ms. Wood
Dear Sutherland Families,
I know that you all are anxious to get your remaining items out of your hallway and PE lockers. We have been granted permission to open the building starting June 10 to allow small groups of students to enter the building to get their remaining items. We will also use this time to collect items such as instruments, library books, textbooks, and other materials you have checked out throughout the year. Additionally, we will be handing out 8th-grade certificates and awards, yearbooks, artwork, and other items belonging to students.
We will be following the protocol below:
- Students will use the Sign Up Genius to select a 20-minute slot to come into the building.
- Due to the limited number of people allowed in the building at a time, parents will need to remain in their cars, and ONLY students will be allowed to enter the building to collect their belongings.
- We will provide students with small trash bags to put the items from their lockers in.
- Students will enter through the cafeteria and return any items they may have, go to their gym locker, hallway locker, and exit through the 8th-grade doors.
- We will have a small number of staff available to support students in this process.
We will also be selling yearbooks during this time for those who were unable to purchase one before we left.
If you are unable to pick up items from your locker, please make arrangements with Ms. Wood for an alternative pick up time. Items not picked up by June 30 will be donated.
The Sign Up Genius will be open from May 21 – June 3 for people to select a time that works for you. We will send you and your student an email reminding you of your time, a list of materials that need to be returned, and a reminder of the protocols. If you have any questions, you can email me directly at mwood@k12albemarle.org
Please click here to access the Sign Up Genius.
Sincerely,
Megan Wood
Well, That's a Wrap...
Teachers will begin to finalize grades over the next two weeks. For those of you taking a high school level course, you should have received an e-mail from your teacher regarding grade options (Pass/Fail or Letter Grade). Make sure you fill out those forms and return them to your teachers.
For those who need just a bit more time, teachers will accept late work up until May 29th. That gives you just over a week to get things done prior to the grades being posted.
8th Grade Celebration:
As we get closer to the end of the year, I have been receiving several questions regarding an 8th-grade celebration. We will create a digital final ceremony recognizing each of our students and well as messages from their teachers. We will send this link to the ceremony on June 5, 2020 to all 8th-grade families. Certificates of completion and other recognition will be handed out during locker cleanout. We will also provide students the opportunity to sign the rock by the 8th-grade wing on their exit of locker cleanout. If you have any questions, please email me directly mwood@k12albemarle.org
Student Laptops
We will not require these laptops to be returned until school resumes in the fall. However, if you’d like to return your laptop to school over the summer, we will be happy to collect them when you come to clean out your lockers. Student access to the locker’s over the summer will enable students to participate in enrichment and other digital learning opportunities, if they so choose.
The following is important to know:
- Families who do not wish to keep their ACPS device over the summer can return it to their school. Your school’s assigned Technology Support Specialist (TSS) will be in touch about coordinating a secure return location and related logistics.
- We have created a Basic Troubleshooting Guide to assist with any technical issues that may arise while this technology is at home. (Spanish version)
- We have created a Technology and Digital Citizenship Field Guide for ACPS Families to support students and families with the safe and responsible use of technology. (Spanish version)
- Student internet browsing on ACPS devices will continue to be filtered per federal requirements.
- Our ACPS Service Desk will continue to be available for any technical assistance you may need. To reach the Service Desk, call 434-975-9444, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., or email ACPSServiceDesk@k12albemarle.org.
A Reminder of Available Resources:
If you are unable to get to any of our student meal service sites, please call Child Nutrition at 434-295-0566. The school division is continuing to consider alternative delivery options based on demand.
Support C-Ville is a local site that has a terrific list of ways to help and ways to get help should your family be in need. This may be the best source for what is available in our local area.
Here is a list of resources families may need here around town. The list is pretty extensive and also a bit out of date as it was put together prior to the crisis, so we will keep this as a running item as our needs are ever-changing. If you need any help from any of these agencies, I would call first as hours and resources available are also ever-changing.
