Tomorrow
Rice Parade and Pep Rally
The parade route will begin outside the pod areas, will go along the driveway until we end up outside the locker rooms for the pep rally. It may be a good time to discuss this with your classes now.
Also, please join us for the 8th grade football game and band performance at Clark Stadium that evening.
I am sending out a request for water bottles to be sent to school in today's eNews.
Even though Wednesday's are Dress for Success days, please feel free to wear jeans. I'm looking forward to the event. Thanks to those of you who helped plan everything!

Parade and Pep Rally
We are set to have our third annual Pep Rally/Parade on Wednesday, October 14 at 10:00. We have invited the 5th graders from Andrews, Wyatt, and Skaggs to be a part of the event. The theme for this year is "Blue Nation". Please start working with your 6th period classes in regards to having a common theme for your class so that you can celebrate with the rest of us in the parade. We have had a great time in the past and I look forward to another great event. I have also invited district and city officials to come out for the fun.
Thanks to those of you who helped plan for the Parade and Pep Rally as well!

Information
Attendance:
The majority of you do a wonderful job taking attendance, but there are some who aren't as wonderful! Linda is keeping track of those tallies and I will be checking to see how things are going. Remember each period is important for attendance, especially 2nd! If you haven't been so wonderful, you can change now!!!
Career Day:
Maggie is looking for more volunteers for Career Day, please contact her if you have a candidate.
CogAT Testing:
Testing is this week through TX History/PACE classes.
Club Information:
Please review the Club Information Smore to ensure your information is being publicized. This has been shared with the community. To view what is already there, please visit this link. Let me know if there needs to be information added.
Fire and Lockdown Drills:
We will conduct our mandatory drills Wednesday afternoon.
Leadership Meeting:
We will have out leadership meeting this Thursday after school in the library.
SBIC Goals Due:
The goals are due on Friday, earlier if possible.
Picture Day:
Picture Day is Wednesday, 10/28. Pictures are pre-paid only and picture packets were delivered last week. You may order pictures online at Mylifetouch.com and enter code: LD305529Q0
Monitoring Students:
If you are allowing students to use their electronic devices in the classroom (read a book quietly, for example), you need to make sure you are actively monitoring what they are doing on these devices. It is too easy for the students to stray from expectations, especially when they aren't being monitored.
Don't forget the class period should be structured at all times as well.
Please make sure you are helping monitor students during the passing periods. I know there are times you need to stay in the classroom, but we need to make sure there is an adult presence in the hallways and pod areas at all times.
Testing Information:
Sarena shared a calendar of MAP and STAAR testing dates, along with other upcoming dates that will impact regular schedules. Please let her know if you have any concerns. And remember, there will be a mandatory STAAR Training Thursday, March 17th.

Library News
Mrs. Johnson has been working hard in the library for the last six weeks. She is looking at ways to continue to make the library an inviting environment for our students. Please ask her about the great things that are in store in the near future!
- The fall book fair dates are Thursday, November 12th – Thursday, November 19th. More information about preview day and teacher wish lists will be forthcoming.
Rice's Bragging and Reflection Form
There are four "announcements" placed in the classroom which is to be used to brag on yourself, a teacher, or even a student. If you include something about someone, please let them know, so they can see the information. Something to try out as far as giving props and recognition to those who deserve it. The class code is: k37hjt
