The 4 Cs of Personalized Learning @ UGES
COLLABORATION: First graders in Ms Dawson's class and fifth graders from Ms Wilson/Galbierz have been designing and building cardboard arcade games. Second graders in Ford and Bunn are publishing revised picture books using stop action filming.
CREATIVITY: Ms Bunn and Ms MacDonald's classes have been publishing their creative writing online using sites like Storybird and Seesaw.
CRITICAL THINKING: Both fourth and fifth grade have been using differentiated tasks and small groups to explore equivalent fractions and addition/subtraction of mixed numbers.
PERSONALIZED LEARNING- what I need, when and how I need it
PERSONAL LEARNING PATHS: It's so exciting to see students in all six grades using "prescriptions", a model providing specific tasks related to areas of weakness and readiness. This allows for remediation/practice/acceleration and allows students to drive their learning at a speed that works best for them. By identifying Learning Targets, students can communicate the skills they are working towards mastering.
STUDENT CONFERENCING: This quarter, the focus of conferencing was on Reflection and Revision. Many discussions in Class Meetings include topics such as accepting constructive feedback. Fourth and Fifth grade have entered their goals into the Learner Profile system, and will be adding artifacts next month. As we head towards spring, UGE will be preparing for student led parent conferences in May.
