Point View School

NEWSLETTER - Week 1, Term 2 - 6 May 2022

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Welcome back to Term 2. A special welcome to our newly arrived students and their families. We look forward to learning together in the years to come.

Joining our Learning Support team this term are Shelley Strachan, Jenna O'Riley and Jackie Macmillan. Haere mai and very best wishes to you all as you begin work with our students and teachers. We are pleased to welcome back Jo Wallis who re-joins the School as a part-time teacher and congratulations to Kate Jennings who is now on maternity leave having just had her third child, a healthy boy.

Mrs Munro is retiring from full-time teaching at the end of Week 1. Christine has worked at Point View since it first started 25 years ago. She has played a very important part in making the school what it is today. On behalf of the thousands of children she has taught, we thank her for all the time and energy she has devoted to our school.

It is good to see our attendance rates over 90% from the start of this term. We are aware that COVID cases in the area are still significant so right now we are still being cautious and therefore avoiding large gatherings such as those associated with School and Syndicate assemblies. Thank you for following our guidelines regarding access onto the school campus at the beginning and end of the school day.

Unfortunately, the contractors did not inform us about the closing of Kilkenny Drive in advance. However, we have now been in contact, and they tell us that Kilkenny Drive will be closed for the first and second weeks of term. Therefore, it should be open again from Monday 16th May. If this date changes, we will try to find out in advance and let you know. The work is scheduled to continue on the shoulders of the Chapel/Kilkenny junction for a further 6 weeks after Kilkenny Drive is reopened.

On our teacher only day, Monday 9 May, we are focussing on a variety of opportunities to collaborate across the teaching staff including some work on the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum particularly in the area of History in the Social Sciences. Our children live in a complex global environment. Through our work on this part of the curriculum we aim to develop ways we can support students to learn how these social factors have come about, what they look like now, what they may look like in the future. We want to help our students understand where they sit in our society.

COVID PROTECTION FRAMEWORK - TERM 2

We remind everyone to refer to the Point View School T2 2022 COVID-19 Protection Framework which was sent out at the end of last term. It contains helpful guidelines listed under the different traffic light settings and tailored to our school. For example, it states that under the Orange Setting: Masks are strongly encouraged to be worn when indoors.

DO YOU ENJOY PLAYING CHESS?

We have some chess enthusiasts at school and are looking for an interested adult who would be willing to spend some time at lunchtimes encouraging this team of students. Your time commitment can be flexible. Please contact Tina Joshua-Bargh at t.joshua-bargh@pointview.school.nz if you think this sounds like you.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

In term 2 and 3, students are required to wear winter uniform. Here is a link to the school uniform page on our website: School Uniform

FAMILY AND FRIENDS AGM - WEDNESDAY 11 MAY 2022 FROM 2PM TO 3PM IN THE LOWER STAFFROOM

Our small group of parents and staff are a great link between the school and home. Joining the committee is a fantastic way for parents and grandparents to be involved with school and to make new friends. We will hold elections for the committee 11 May 2022.
