The WJHS Panther Update
August 25, 2023
Principal's Letter
Panther Families,
While the temperatures outside have made this a trying week for all, we do support your patience and flexibility with the changes in our schedules.
We definitely made the most of our time at the high school with a two-day event revolving around our theme for the year - Unleashing the Superhero in YOU!
We started with the movie "Into the Spiderverse" on Wednesday followed by an inspirational presentation by Superintendent Baldermann on Thursday.
Mr. Baldermann wove our theme into his message, inspiring students to speak to the whole student body, and challenging them to use their superpowers for an incredible year. Students also wrote letters to Mr. Baldermann expressing their wishes and goals for a great school year. Make sure to ask your student(s) what they included in their letters!
Chromebook Reminder - It is important that your student bring a fully-charged chromebook to school. If your student has lost their charger, please have them see Mrs. Centeno and/or Miss Donile in the Media Center to purchase a new one.
Curriculum Night - Curriculum night will be held on Thursday, Sept. 7 from 6:00-7:30 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet our staff and learn about our curriculum. Click here for the evening's Agenda
Picture Day - Picture Day has been rescheduled for Friday, Sept. 1.
Parent Volunteers - We are always looking for parent volunteers and welcome you into our school as much as you can help us! Due to our HVAC renovation this summer, we are currently in need of parents to help Mrs. Centeno in the media center with various tasks, organizational needs in classrooms, and parent greeters at our front door in the morning before school. If you are interested in helping in any way, please reach out to Ms. Quattrone at aquattrone@cusd201.org.
Free Medical Clinic - Please download the link below for information from UChicago Medicine and a free clinic they are offering.
Three Pillars Donations: On Standards Day we had a lot of fun sharing our Three Pillars of Expectations with students, reviewing common language and expectations, and uniting around kindness as a school community.
Paired with our Kindness in the Classroom curriculum, teachers and staff are regularly recognizing students who display these pillars. Students will receive tickets that can be used for weekly raffle drawings and prizes.
If you are able to partner with us in this positive behavior initiative and donate a prize it would be greatly appreciated. Ideas could be as simple as a small donation or a small gift card to Dunkin Donuts, McDonald's, or anywhere kids love! Snacks, gel pens, notebooks, etc.... a small token will go a long way!
We are already so proud of what we are seeing here in the classrooms and hallways. We encourage you to talk to your student about the pillars of Safety, Respect, and Responsibility and we look forward to sharing with you the great things WJHS students do throughout the year.
Remember to check the WJHS calendar for up-to-date information on Clubs, Events, & Athletics.
