The parent survey focuses on areas that range from student safety and positive adult and student relationships to school rules and how they are enforced. Participation in the survey is encouraged, but it is completely voluntary, and all questions are optional to answer. Visit the District website for more information and a link to the parent survey.

SILVER CORD FOR GRADUATION
SILVER CORD QUESTIONS:SILVER CORD – A Service-Based Student Organization here at East High.
Students MUST document all service activities on the Silver Cord Award Form provided by East High – one form for each site or project, signed by a supervisor at the site. (A note confirming the students’ service signed by the supervisor at the project is also acceptable. It must be attached to the Silver Cord Form). Forms can be submitted to Mrs. Benson at East High School at any time during the year. For sophomores and juniors: if you don’t turn in forms by the end of the school year, you may submit them at any time during the following fall. There is no specific deadline for underclassmen to submit forms, although it is best to turn them in as soon as they are completed. Seniors will need to have their hours submitted by May 1st.
Service hours earned during the summer after the academic year which ends on May 31, may be applied toward EITHER the prior or following school year-students choice. (For example, the summer after the sophomore year can apply toward either the sophomore or junior 40 hour requirement or divided between the two as needed). FREAHMAN should show that they served hours after June 1st and complete 40 hours through the end of their Sophomore year. It is recommended that all summer projects be pre-approved in writing by Mr. Dreessen to make sure they are acceptable. Pre-approval forms are available in the Office (or on the Documentation page) and should be submitted 2 weeks before final exams. Summer service that complies with the Silver Cord Criteria will be accepted even if students were not able to submit pre-approval forms. Students should pick up blank Silver Cord Award forms before the end of school to use for documenting summer service. Please keep completed forms until you return to East in the fall. The Silver Cord Advisor will be responsible for keeping students; Silver Cord files.
Students will need 120 service hours to earn their silver cord. If you have any questions, please stop by Mrs. Benson’s desk in the main office.

Iowa State University Extension and Outreach We are looking for youth who might want to volunteer to lead after school 4-H clubs at Beyond the Bell locations. They would be guided by our Youth Program Specialists using 4-H curriculum that aligns with Iowa Core Standards. They would meet at Beyond the Bell school sites and would only have up to 10 youth. I thought it would also be a good opportunity for someone who is interested in the education and childcare pathway. If interested, please contact: Cheryl Cannot
EAST HIGH CAMPUS POLICY
BUILDING ACCESS: There is no staff to open the doors before 7:15am. Breakfast is 7:20-7:50am. Please do not expect students to get into the building before this time.
Students should not be in the halls or classrooms before 7:45am and after 3:05pm unless they have a pass from a teacher or are involved in the current season’s activity. At the end of the day we expect students who are not involved in school activities to leave the school grounds by 3:05pm.
STUDENT INFORMATION
LOCKERS: Students wanting a locker may request one with Mrs. Burns at the Attendance Desk.
BACKPACKS: Students that are in need of a backpack can stop by either the Main Office or the Downstairs Office.
KEEP DOORS LOCKED: Please do not let anyone in the building; all visitors and students should ring the doorbell to get in the building. If we all follow this protocol we can monitor who is coming into our school at all times and keep everyone safe.
STOP SIGNS: Officer Shoumaker would like to remind all students that you must come to a full and complete stop at any and all stop signs in and around the school. In addition, students should use the crosswalks when crossing the street, so please do not park over any crosswalks.
PARKING NOTICE: Just a reminder that there is to be no parking along or on any yellow curb, on a sidewalk, over a crosswalk, in front of any entrance, on the grass, in front of any gate leading to any part of the school grounds, in visitor parking, school vehicle parking or handicap parking, or where any cones have been set up, etc. This is so O&M, contractors, delivery drivers, bus drivers and (if necessary) emergency personnel can easily access those parts of the building and grounds. People that are parking incorrectly may not be warned going forward and take the risk of being towed. Also, if you are parking on the street please make sure that you are not parking in front any of our neighbor’s driveways, mailboxes, etc.
ELEVATOR: Students just a reminder that the elevator is only for staff and students that have a pass to use the elevator. Do not use the elevator unless you have permission.
CLEAN CAMPUS: It is common courtesy to clean up after yourselves; our Food Service Staff, Teachers and Custodians work very hard to keep the school clean for you. Please take the time to simply pick up your garbage off of the floors, tables and put your trays away during lunch. In addition, please pick up the garbage on the floors in the halls and in the parking lots and place them in trash cans. This takes a matter of seconds to do and everyone would appreciate it. This is your school and this reflects on you, for you are East High School. When you see a piece of trash on the ground please pick it up and throw it away. Thank you all for your help.

- Students can ONLY travel to a school sponsored activity within the S. C. Community School District.
- The student may not use any electronic device while driving.
- Students can have one minor household member (sibling only-not a friend) in their vehicle at a time as long as they are traveling to the same school. You cannot pick up or drop off minor passenger along the route.
- Students will need to take two pieces of mail with them to the DMV. One of the pieces of mail must be in the student's name and the other can be in the parent's name that is signing off on the school permit form.
