Vanessa Vasquez
4th Grade Teacher
Personally:
I am 35 years old, and I have been married to my husband Zack for 14 years. Our son, Cris (15 years old), has been our inspiration since day one and has kept us quite busy with his baseball career.
College and Educational Background:
My journey to serve started when I was a young girl. I started off traveling on mission trips with my grandparents who have been pastoring for over 55 years. The passion of service stayed with me through adulthood. For the past 15 years, I have worked in a variety of public service positions, including an ESL Instructor, fitness coach for early childhood development centers, and Breastfeeding Counselor through a government program. In 2013, I decided to live out my goal of becoming a school teacher so, I enrolled in college. I received my associates through Navarro College, and continued my education through Texas A&M Commerce where I received my bachelor's degree in December 2017. During this time, I joined the Wedgeworth staff as a paraprofessional where I worked in the Special Education Department as a content mastery and inclusion aide for 3 years.
Hobbies and Favorite Things to Do:
I start my day with Jesus and coffee. After that, a "perfect day" would include, a good read (anything in the Inspirational genre), a trip to the movies (Comedy or Action flick) with popcorn (extra butter). Later that evening I would love to watch my son pitch a complete game shut out with my entire family in attendance. Then, I would end the day under the stars with my family as we enjoy each other's conversation, many laughs, and strawberry cheesecake blizzard from DQ!
What I'm bringing to the Wedgeworth Team:
If you are around me any amount of time, you will find that I am strong, though I may lack in other areas because no one is perfect. I have been challenged my entire life to stand firm through all life's hills and valleys. The perseverance I attained has motivated me to study my craft and teach it well, and allows me to do my best in supporting, encouraging, and contributing to my team when and however. I truly want to be the kind of person who inspires others to find their strength. Not just for my students, but anyone.
