Newborns
A baby carried to "term" is born after 37-42 weeks of pregnancy
Babies born earlier than 37 weeks are considered "premature"
Average birth weight is 7.5 pounds, with the normal ranging from 5.5 lbs to 9 (or even 10) pounds.
Birth To 3 Months
- Smiles, coos
- Look at parents
- Reacts to noises
- Follows objects with eyes
- Pushes up when on stomach
3 To 6 Months
- Rolls over
- Brings objects to mouth
- Recognizes people
- Fears strangers
- Babbles
- Shows emotion
- Sits without support
6 To 9 Months
- Begins to communicate (points, makes noise, etc)
- Crawls, pull to standing
- Move things from one hand to another
- Makes many "sounds" (mama, dada)
9 To 12 Months
- Tries to repeat words
- Waves "bye-bye"
- Understand simple directions
- Starts to use items correctly (hair brush, spoon, cup)
- Puts things in containers and takes them out
- Begins walking
- Finds hidden objects

- Pedal a tricycle
- Complete puzzles
- Play make believe
- Dress themselves
- Thrive with routine
- Walk up and down stairs, with one foot on each stair
- Name colors and numbers
- Uses Scissors
- Catch a bounced ball
