GES Weekly

April 28, 2023

Hello Families and Community:

Thank you for being patient this week when we had to cancel school due to a septic issue. We were able to have repairs made and welcomed students back in the building on Thursday. During all-school meeting, I showed students the broken conduit and burned wires. Although inconvenient for us all not to have school, it was a learning opportunity!

We are having our Spring Photos taken by Kristie Lisai on Monday. We are going to watch the weather closely and take students out for their photo when it is not raining.

Have a great weekend!

School Property Access

Now that Spring has arrived, I would like to remind the community that school grounds are not open to the public during school hours, during the school year - Monday through Friday from 7:45am-3:15pm. If you wish to access the property behind our school, we ask that you please use an alternative trail and not the trail on school grounds. We have asked our students not to engage with pets that they may see during school hours while outside.

Lost Glasses Found on our Playground

A student found these prescription glasses on our playground. If a community member has lost these, please call Sarah Noble at GES 802-843-2495

K/1/2

Students read, My Name is Yoon, and reflected on their learning by writing their name in Korean characters.

3rd & 4th Grade

Students enjoyed a two and a half hour workshop this morning on renewable energy resources. Julian Leon, an engineer and educator with the Vermont Energy Education Program did an amazing job keeping them engaged. It was a fun and productive morning. A great way to end the week!

Students took apart pens and examined the parts, made cookie cutter tessellations, and catapults with popsicle sticks, rubber bands, and a plastic spoon.

Students celebrated Mrs. Lisai's birthday today too! Her birthday is on Sunday - Happy BIRTHDAY Mrs. Lisai!

Free Dental Day at Bowman Dental

We are happy to announce our 5th annual Free Dental Day!

We are supporting our local community with free dental services for individuals and families without dental insurance, who are currently having difficulty affording regular dental care.

Services, including choice of a dental cleaning, filling or an extraction will be provided at no cost to the patient. Treatment will be limited to a single exam and procedure per person. Preregistration and appointments are not available.

First come, first served. Participants do not have to be current patients of Bowman Dental.

Due to broader than expected interest in this event we are limiting services to NH and VT residents only so we can focus on our local communities. Valid ID or other identification required.

Registration begins at 7:30 AM outside at Bowman Dental, 48 Meadow Access Lane, Walpole (Shaw’s
Plaza) on a first-come, first-served basis.

Patients should bring a list of medications and up-to-date medical history. Simply show up, and register!

“We understand that many people in our community haven’t been to the dentist for a long period of time. This event is a great opportunity for us to share our time and resources and give back to the community,”said Dr. Bowman. Oral health has been linked to overall health and well-being. “Dental health is a vital part of a person’s overall health,” said Dr. Bowman. “Through this event, we hope to educate patients on the importance of dental health and encourage them to adopt an ongoing oral care regimen.”

“This is our favorite day of the year. It’s very gratifying to see the impact that events like Free Dental Day can have on the life of a person. At the same time, we’re changing their life, they’re changing ours,” said Dr. Bowman.

Tech Camp registration is now open!

RVTC offers a FREE summer camp to students in our region (yep, that's right, this year camp will be free to all students)! Camp will take place Monday, June 26 - Thursday, June 29 from 8:00 - 2:45.

I am still working on the details of the programs but programs will be similar to last year and to the types of programs we have offered through the Tech Time afterschool program. Students in camp will participate in 8 different activities throughout the week.

Here is the link to register:

I will send out medical forms and permission slips as people register. Students are not considered fully registered until all forms are returned!

Thank you and please reach out with questions!
