MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS

55th Edition: December 15, 2017

Pilgrims on the Way of Truth

'Twas the Friday Before Exams, and All Through the School...

While many children have visions of sugar-plums, Marian students may have formulas, historical dates, and literary terms dancing in their heads instead! Hopefully, today's homework deadlines have cleared this weekend for exam preparation and (if possible) some rest and family time!

Our Christmas Drive was an amazing success this past week! We were able to provide Christmas presents for over 30 families in our community! We also had a great time launching a new holiday tradition with Candy Cane sales and delivery today during 9th period. Not only did the candy canes bring joy to our students, we also raised a significant donation to PADS! Finally, today's halls were especially joyous as we filled the air with holiday music during the passing periods, and students had a great time with the Christmas spirit dress down day!

Enjoy the weekend!

1/2 Tuition Due Dec. 15th!

According to our Student Handbook, please make sure you have 50% of your annual tuition paid in full before Semester 1 Exams. We cannot allow students to take their semester exams until we have verified tuition payments are up to date. Students whose tuition accounts are not current will be called to the office on Monday, Dec. 18th to make them aware of their exam status.

Ready to make a tuition payment now? Click here to make on Online Payment!

Have any questions or concerns regarding your account? Please contact our Business Manager, Mrs. Peggy Murwin at pmurwin@marian.com or call (815) 338-4220 ext. 106.

Here is the excerpt from the Student Handbook:

Semester Examinations - Financial Obligations

No student will be allowed to take first semester exams unless his/her tuition is current. Therefore, a minimum of one-half of the family tuition must be paid prior to the first semester exam dates. No student will be allowed to take second semester exams unless his/her tuition and any other fees are paid in full. In the event a family finds itself in an extraordinary circumstance, a request for an exception to the first semester payment policy can be made to the Superintendent. The written request is to include an explanation of the extraordinary circumstances accompanied by a payment plan. The Superintendent has the authority to make such an exception if it is deemed appropriate and the payment plan is acceptable. A family’s payment history will be examined in making such a decision. There are no exceptions to this policy at the end of the second semester.

Illinois Tax Scholarship Information Now Online!

On August 31, 2017 the Illinois Legislature approved the Invest in Kids Act, which created an income based tax scholarship program to allow low income students more choices in education. These K-12 scholarships are based on financial need, not how well a child does in school. With this new legislation, families are able to choose to enroll in a non-public (private) school with scholarship money available for tuition and necessary fees starting on January 24, 2018, which marks the opening of the scholarship application process.

Scholarships offered through this program have the potential to cover up to 100% of tuition and eligible fees for next school year for families that qualify.

This program will be funded completely by donors who wish to help low income families have a choice in education. If you are in a position to donate, please consider doing so! Since individuals will be able to direct their donations to a school or group of schools, you can help ensure that families have access to a great Catholic education. Empower Illinois is the scholarship granting partner of the Diocese of Rockford. Applications for donor tax credits begin on January 2nd.

Rockford Diocese Department of Educational Services has created a very comprehensive, user-friendly online resource for both families interested in scholarship application and individuals/corporations interested in making donations to support this wonderful initiative.
