A weekly update from campus...

January 8, 2016

Happy New Year, everyone!

We have been getting back in the swing of things this week. Even though it is not the beginning of the school year, the new calendar year allows us to have a new boost of energy to learn! It is always so exciting for me to see the student achievement growth during the second semester of school. Keep your eyes peeled....your children are going to amaze you!

A parent suggested to me that I take recommendations on topics to address in the newsletter. So, if you have ideas you would like for me to consider, please email me. I would love to hear your thoughts!

Enjoy your weekend,

Mrs. Abney

Grappling!

I am a learner. Each day I try to learn something that I did not know before. Well, 5th grader, Addie Henry, taught me something. She placed 2nd in the North America Grappling Association competition that took place right before Winter Break. She had to explain to me what that meant. HA! If you don't know, just ask her. Congrats, Addie!!!

Norris Super Stars....

We are working on our sense of community. If your child has done something unique and amazing, like Addie, please tell them to stop by and tell me. I'd love to share what our Norris students are accomplishing outside of school as well as in school!

Here is a great opportunity to visit with District leaders in an open forum...

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jeremy Lyon, along with a member of the Frisco ISD Board of Trustees, will be hosting a coffee talk on Thursday, January 14, from 8-9 a.m. in the Independence HS library. There is no agenda or topic, just a time for informal conversation with District leaders. Coffee will be provided.

Did a hoverboard arrive at your house over the Winter Break? If so, please read the information below...

Frisco ISD will not be allowing Hoverboards on Frisco ISD property. Documented fires have occurred in the use of these devices while charging, as well as during use. Other organizations have also banned their use/presence due to fire risk, including many airlines. If students bring a Hoverboard to campus, the parent will be contacted to pick up the device, as it cannot remain on campus due to the possible risk. This includes all makes and models of Hoverboards. As always, the safety of students and staff is our top priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
