Hawk FLY-er
Week of 10/25/21-10/29/21
Halloween
- We ask that children arrive in costume, if they plan to dress up
- Please be sure that your child is able to maneuver in their costume independently, especially if they need to use the restroom, remove a piece, etc.
- Costumes should be reflective of positive themes
- Costumes should be comfortable, safe and not restrict movement or vision
- Please be sure that the costume does not include any look-alike weapons, such as swords, spikes, knives or guns
- Masks will be allowed during the Halloween celebration time, but cannot be worn anywhere else on campus to ensure their safety
- We ask that students not wear blow-up costumes, as they can be very difficult to safely move around in
We know in the past there has been a schoolwide parade and parents have enjoyed coming on campus to see all of the costumes. While we will be able to have a special parade for our students, we are not able to invite parents this year, due to COVID guidelines.
While we will miss getting to have all of you with us, we are still very excited to be able to celebrate with your kiddos!!!!!

Our next association meeting will be on Tuesday, November 16th at 6:30 pm.
Our counselor, Mrs. Martyniuk will be joining us for this meeting to talk about how we are using Restorative Practices on campus and help you transfer these important communication skills our children are learning into your home.
Please also be sure to collect Virtual Box Tops and sign up for Amazon Smile to help us throughout the year!
For now, all meetings will be held on Zoom. Please mark your calendars!
We also have several events coming up at the end of October and beginning of November listed below. Please be on the lookout for more information.
Spirit wear can be ordered anytime and is delivered to your child on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month. We love seeing our kiddos show their Hawk Pride!
Please check out their website for important parent information as well as directions on how to join!
Great Shake Out...THANK YOU!
Yesterday, our students participated in the California Great Shake Out. They did a wonderful job evacuating in a safe and orderly manner and were excellent listeners on the field. THANK YOU!!!
Remember this is a great time to also talk to your child about what to do in an emergency at home, and to check your home disaster kits.
Our next drill will be a fire drill on November 4th. We will also have a lockdown drill on November 18th.
Counselor's Corner
Hello Hawk families!
So often as parents and educators we remind our kids to focus on the importance of education and hard work. This week is an opportunity to focus on the importance of play. Did you know children learn invaluable skills while playing? For children, learning and playing truly go hand in hand. Children learn cognitive skills (such as math and problem solving), physical skills (like balancing blocks or walking across a beam), social and literacy skills (such as cooperation and increased vocabulary) to name a few!
As an example, think of how much goes into playing a pretend game. If your child wants to play a game where they have an ice cream shop, they probably write or draw a menu, they might use math to determine prices or make change, use memory skills to take orders, use their motor skills to scoop the ice cream, and they build social confidence and self-esteem as they play with you!
Play has so many physical and developmental benefits. It helps kids stay physically healthy, reduces stress, and builds great memories. As parents, it’s important for us to remember that when we give our kids time to play (and when you play with them) you are actually helping them reinforce their academic development too!

You can contact Mrs. Martyniuk via EMAIL or request she visit with your child by using THIS FORM.

- November 15-December 3: Grades 1, 3, 5

COVID Reminders
Please remember that if your child is showing any of the signs or symptoms of COVID 19, they should stay home. We also ask that you call in to speak to the office if your child has been exposed so we can walk you through the decision-making process of whether or not they should be at school.
A quick reminder from our PVSD 2021-2022 School Operations Plan
Students/Staff who have symptoms and were directed to care for themselves at home may discontinue isolation under the following conditions:

Any student or staff member who is absent from school/work due to illness must check in to the main office before returning to classroom/work station.
The student/staff member must be assessed and approved to return by the appropriate personnel (someone trained on active assessment for COVID-19 symptoms).
