We will close up at 7pm- hope you can make it!
School start time
Our doors open at 7:30 and students walk to class at 7:50 to be greeted by their teacher, at 8am we start our day in class and take attendance. Students who come after 8am are counted as tardy and need to stop by the office to sign in, in order to avoid a phone call to you, stating they are absent.
My son had a similar start time at his elementary school so I always tried to get him there by 7:45 am, if we can try for a similar goal, we can avoid the traffic jam in the office due to the high volume of students we have coming in after 8am.
We really appreciate it! Thank you in advance, your front office team
A note about holidays/celebrations
As Halloween approaches, I thought I should add a note about Holidays, etc...At Tamarack (as in my previous schools) we do not celebrate holdiays, we learn about multiculrual traditions and seasonal festivities from around the world. Not everyone shares the same holdiays / celebrations and some abstain completely. In order to respect all of our community members and keep a focus on academics, we do not celebrate any one holiday but lead students through learning about others through an anthropological lens.
When it comes to Halloween, costumes should not be worn to school. This can be scary to our younger students and often they come with props like swords, masks, etc...that can become distracting and at times unsafe.
In lieu of this, we will have a Spirit Week:
Monday 10/30: Mismatch Day (2 different shoes, clashing colors, etc...)
Tuesday 10/31: Favorite Book Character Day (dress up as your favorite book character)
Wednesday 11/1: College Color Day
Thursday 11/2: Career Day (what do you want to be when you grow up?)
Friday 11/3: Rainbow Day (see pic) then we will take a whole school picture!
Kinder wear something red
1st grade wear something orange
2nd grade wear something yellow
3rd grade wear something green
4th grade wear something blue
5th grade wear something Indigo
6th grade wear something violet
A few other notes:
Due to food allergies, your classroom teacher is your best match if you are planning on sending snacks/treats (they may request treats be something non edible like stickers if there are allergies). If you are wanting to send invites to a party here at school, all students in the class should receive an invite otherwise please invite outside of the school day. When we get to Valentines Day, we will be celebrating Acts of Kindness & Service all week long and students will be creating Tootles (notes of admiration to their classmates and community members). If you do send cards, again we ask every student in their class receive a card.
Halloween, Birthdays & Valentines Day are 3 of the most exciting traditions-thank you for helping us ensure they are inclusive to all our K-6th graders. We apprecaite it!
Clothes closet request
Before you drop off clothes to Goodwill or beyond, we are looking for pants, shorts and shirts for our spare clothes closet. Drawstring/elastic banded waists are best (but ok if not). We like to keep a few pairs on hand in case there is a spill or accident. Clothes for ages 5-9 years are very helpful.Thank you for considering sending them our way!
Safety Drills
We have completed our first fire drill! Everyone did great; out of the building safely and accounted for in about 5 minutes-not bad for our first!
For your awareness, while we cannot let you know the exact day/time we will have a Lock Down drill next week. Students who have accommodations for drills, will be supported. All students have been pre taught safety drills prior to the drill occurring. Staff met prior to our Grand Opening and reviewed all safety protocols/plans and walking paths to exit.
Moving forward we will have a monthly fire drill, 1 more Lock Down, 2 Lock Outs, 2 Earthquake and 2 Hold Drills.
More information about our safety protocols and drills is located here:
