North Point Middle School
Back to School Reminders 2023

September 2023
Dear North Point Middle School Families,
Thank you for your help in getting the 2023-2024 school year off to a great start. Our students are becoming accustomed to their new schedules, our routines, and the building-wide expectations at NPMS. Students were given the opportunity to choose their preferred seat in the cafeteria and have had some successful experience now with altered schedules.
Our hope is that North Point Middle School is a place where everyone belongs and becomes the best version of themselves. One way for your child to feel as if he or she belongs is to be involved in the activities that we offer. Student Council applications are due today and yearbook applications are due on Sunday. Cross country has begun for 8th grade students and tryouts for 8th grade poms and cheer are coming up soon.
On Tuesday, September 12, we are planning a 6th grade Ice Cream Social. This will be directly after school and will provide our 6th graders another opportunity to interact with their WEB Leaders. Information will be sent out soon to 6th grade families.
We will have other opportunities for students as well. In the next few weeks, students can participate in our first intramural session and our PTA plans to offer a Boo Bash to our students on October 6. Specific details about both of these activities will be coming soon.
Throughout the school year, students will have the opportunity to participate in the following:
Musical
Boys 8th Grade Basketball
Girls 8th Grade Basketball
8th Grade Track
Robotics Club
Science Fair
Art Show
Talent Show
We also have an event planned specifically for each grade level.
Important information will always be shared with you through the daily announcements that I send each weekday afternoon.
We hope that you will join us for Open House on Thursday, September 7. Grade-level teachers will meet with you at the following times:
Grade 6 | 5:30-6:05 p.m.
Grade 7 | 6:10-6:45 p.m.
Grade 8 | 6:50-7:25 p.m.
This is a parent-only event. Sped, PE, and Explo teachers will be available throughout the evening. Each team will prepare a short presentation for this evening that can also be shared with parents who are unable to attend. Please remember that this evening is not the time for you to speak privately with your child's teachers about your child, but instead a chance to hear about their expectations and procedures.
Now that our school year is underway, I want to remind you to make sure that you are asking your child often about activities that happen in their classes. Consider asking specific questions like these: What made you smile today? If you could change one thing about today, what would it be? What was the hardest rule to follow today? Tell me something you know today that you didn't know yesterday.
It is also essential that you are logging in to the portal together to keep a careful watch on grades. This will help you understand the feedback that your child is getting on individual assignments.
I also encourage you to pair to your child's Canvas courses. Canvas is the learning management system that is used in all of the District's secondary buildings. Staying connected in this manner will help you understand specific assignments for all classes. You can ask your child to show you these assignments even before they are due. Please follow these directions to pair to your child's courses.

Leader In Me
Leader in Me is a school program that aims to empower students to become leaders in their own right. The program focuses on teaching students the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, a set of principles that can be applied to both personal and professional lives. The program is designed to help students develop a strong sense of self, leadership skills, and a positive attitude towards learning.
The 7 Habits are as follows: be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand, then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw. These habits are meant to help students develop a strong sense of personal responsibility and a positive attitude towards life.
One of the key goals of Leader in Me is to create a culture of leadership within the school. This is achieved through a number of different activities and initiatives, such as student-led conferences, leadership clubs, and community service projects. The program also encourages students to take ownership of their own learning by setting goals and tracking their progress.
In addition to its focus on leadership development, Leader in Me also emphasizes the importance of making connections between home and school. Parents are encouraged to get involved in the program by attending parent-teacher conferences and volunteering in the school. The program also provides resources for families to use at home, such as family mission statements and family goal-setting activities.
Overall, Leader in Me is a comprehensive program that aims to develop the whole student, both academically and personally. By teaching the 7 Habits and providing opportunities for leadership development, the program helps students become confident, responsible, and successful individuals.
Chromebook Insurance
All families have the option to purchase Chromebook insurance annually for each child in grade 6-12.
You have the option to purchase this online with RevTrak/Vanco, our Online Payment website. This is a feature for families to pay online rather than sending in money for the optional insurance fee ($20). This is for grades 6-12.

You also have the option of bringing in cash or a check to the Main Office.
News from the Nurse
The clinic is in need of clothing in all sizes. If you have any you can spare, or looking to get rid of, we would greatly appreciate it!

If so, get updated medication orders from their physician that include the name of the student, name of drug, dosage, frequency of administration, route of administration, and the prescriber's name.
