Rugby stars to celebrate €5m Broadband Investment in Carlow
Eircom Wholesale, in association with Carlow Rugby, is hosting an important community information day on Saturday, 6th December, at 10am in Carlow Rugby Club to celebrate a €5 million investment that the company has made in Carlow’s broadband infrastructure bringing high speed broadband to over 19,000 premises in 10 communities. In attendance will be former Irish Rugby stars John Hayes, Reggie Corrigan & Fiona Coghlan.
This investment is part of a €400 million national broadband upgrade programme that will allow 1.6 million homes and businesses access high-speed broadband by the end of 2016. So far 11,866 premises in Carlow have access to uncongested high-speed broadband with speeds of up to 100 Mb/s.
John Brophy, President, Carlow Chamber, also welcomes the investment that has been made in local broadband infrastructure: “Carlow has a vibrant community and, as such, it is vital that we have the infrastructure in place for the benefit of the community. With digital technology playing an increasingly important role in business and home life, we need to ensure that businesses and residents can access a broadband service that allows them to deliver on all their business needs, as well as make the most of the latest technology in the home. Carlow Chamber is particularly pleased that the investment is in an Open Access Network, which will mean that there will be competition between broadband providers that can only be good for consumers, both business and residential.”
