Aiming to Keep You Informed

November 6, 2020

From the Office

Next Wednesday, November 11th is Veterans Day. We encourage all students to take some time this weekend and next, to talk with friends and relatives who are veterans and to recognize them for their service to our country. In Social Studies classes, students will be learning about the history of Veterans Day and some of the sacrifices made by our fellow Americans. As a staff, we would like to thank all of our local veterans for their service!

Health/Safety reminders

The health and safety of Westfield Middle School students and staff is our highest priority. Please review these reminders to help us keep everyone safe.

Supply Pick-up: We have designated our Early-Release Wednesdays from 2:00-5:00PM for general supply pick-up. If you are unable to stop in during that time, please contact the Main Office to make an appointment for another date/time. We are unable to accommodate drop-ins. Thank you for your understanding!

Symptoms/Close contacts: Parents, please keep your child home if your child exhibits any COVID-like symptoms or is in close contact with other family members and friends who are exhibiting symptoms or who have tested positive for COVID-19. Sick persons should contact their health care provider to determine if testing is needed. Anyone who develops severe symptoms should seek medical care immediately.

If your child has had close contact with a known case of COVID-19, keep the child at home for 14 days and notify your primary healthcare provider, Westfield Middle School, and DuPage County Health Department.

We will continue to enforce safe practices to prevent, promptly identify, and respond to potential COVID cases, as follows:

  • Students and staff who are ill with COVID-like symptoms will promptly be placed in a separate supervised area away from others until they can be sent home.

  • Students are required to wear face coverings at all times, maintain a 6 foot distance from other students and staff whenever possible, per district policy.

  • Staff are required to wear face coverings at all times while in contact with children and other staff in the facility.

  • We are continuously sanitizing high-touch surfaces and encouraging frequent hand washing by all students and staff.

We are committed to providing your child and our staff with a safe and healthy environment. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing cooperation!

Big picture

The State of Illinois is not waiving the requirements for all students who have mandated health forms (physicals, immunizations, dental and eye exams), even though students are not currently physically present in the schools. Please submit the mandated forms to your child’s school as soon as possible. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact your school’s building nurse for assistance (Westfield Middle School nurse is Beth Jones bjones@sd13.org) Please scan, fax, or drop off hard copies of medical documents to the school. We are unable to accept photographs of medical documents. Thank you!

{Students who are transferring into our district from out-of-state must speak with the building nurse.}

The exclusion date for non-compliant students remains October 15th, except for the dental exam which is not due until May 2021.

The required forms are available at your Doctor offices and on your school’s website, located under “Health Information”.

Please see below for the grades which have mandated paperwork due October 15th:

  • Kindergarten (or 1st grade, if your student did not attend kindergarten): physical examination, up-to-date immunizations, eye exam and dental exam. (Dental exam is due in May 2021.)
