As you know, we will have our students back 4 days a week next week! Our teachers are so excited to be able to deliver in-person instruction to all students on these days and will also be striving to assign meaningful and relevant virtual assignments on Wednesdays to help your children continue to move forward.
Of course, this comes with some challenges. We will all continue wearing face coverings at all times, but will not be able to social distance 6 feet. We will do our best to have your children as far apart as possible, knowing that this may be only 2 or 3 feet. Another challenge will come for all of us when we have someone in the building test positive. We must continue to follow the Alabama Department of Public Health Toolkit for Schools which will mean we may have to send home more close contacts to quarantine. I know you hate to see my phone number pop up just as much as I hate to have to call to send your child home. No one wants all the children in school more than me! As soon as we can hug again, you may not ever find me without a child in my arms, too!
Remember, please do not send your child to school is he/she is showing any sign of illness. Click here for all the symptoms of COVID. It also helps us if you check your child's temperature every morning before sending him/her to school. It will continue to take all of us working together in order to stay in school 4 or 5 days!
As we increase our daily attendance, our carpool line will double, as well. You might have gotten accustomed to the shorter lines and wait time, so be prepared for our regular carpool. As a reminder, we do all we can to keep your children safe. Make sure those who pick up your child in carpool know to wait in the line patiently once loaded and not pull around other cars that are still loading. That can be dangerous should a child run between the cars! Also, make sure your child knows to continue getting in and out of the car independently.
This has been a year of challenges, but I am so grateful to work with teachers and staff who are ready to face any challenge for the good of our students. We love your children and will continue to do all we can to make sure they are learning and achieving!
Sincerely,
Dr. Stocks
