Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year
Dear Families,
We hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer. We also hope you are relaxed, recharged and ready to start a new school year. We are delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. We welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and we look forward to working with you and your children.
All signs point to an incredible and productive school year. Our skilled and devoted staff is already planning and preparing for your child(ren). Our enthusiastic office team is registering new families, ordering needed materials and updating student files. Our hard working and conscientious custodians have spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the facility. Also, our much-appreciated PTA is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer other exciting events and programs. We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of nurturing responsible, caring students, and promoting high-level learning.
A special welcome is extended to our incoming Kindergarten families and all our families new to Lisbon. We are glad you’ve joined our LES community. We will hold a Kindergarten Open House/ Back to School Night on Friday, August 26th from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. We will also hold a New Family Orientation for families new to Lisbon in grades 1-5 on Friday, August 26th from 10:30-11:15 a.m. in the school cafeteria.
Our annual Open House will be held on Friday, August 26th from 11:15 a.m.–12:00 p.m. This is the time to meet your child’s new teacher, greet former teachers and staff, and drop off school supplies.
Please be sure to mark your calendars and save the dates as our annual Back-to-School nights are early this year!
Tuesday, August 23 - Back-to-School Night
Grades 1 & 2 at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday, August 24 - Back-to-School Night
Grades 3, 4, & 5 at 6:30 p.m.
Friday, August 26 at 9:30 a.m. - Kindergarten Open House and Back-to-School Night
Our Lisbon PTA will sponsor a Popsicle Play Date on the playground in front of Lisbon Elementary School (near the tennis courts) following this Open House and Back-to-School Night.
Communication is always key! At Lisbon, we do our best to consolidate communication in our weekly newsletter, the Lisbon Lines. The Lisbon Lines will be published weekly throughout the school year through email. Since you will receive email from your child's teachers and potentially other schools and teachers, if you have older children, we want to be sure we do not inundate your email inbox day in and day out. Be sure to look for the Lisbon Lines newsletter on Fridays in your email inbox starting in September. It will be packed full of a lot of important information in one location. If you ever miss an issue of the Lisbon Lines, we archive each issue on the main page of the LES Website. There will be times when we send email communication from the office between the Lisbon Lines issues, so please be sure to check email regularly.
I am also excited to share that our Smore.com newsletter (Lisbon Lines) can now be translated by Google into many languages. To translate the newsletter, go to the top right hand corner and click translate newsletter under the word accessibility. There is also a high contrast mode where the text can be viewed in black and white and larger lettering. I hope this will help provide even better communication for our diverse community.
Our administrative team is here to serve our students and families. We want to assist your family with any concerns or needs that may arise throughout the school year. Please don’t hesitate to call or email us with any concerns, ideas, suggestions, or celebrations.
We look forward to welcoming your children back to school on Monday, August 29th. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. to begin the 2022-2023 school year. Please read through this newsletter carefully for important information to start the year off safely.
Enjoy the weekend,
Mrs. Anoff, Principal
Mr. Scobie, Assistant Principal

Family File Emergency Form is Open in HCPSS Connect
The 2022-2023 Family File is now available to parents.
HCPSS requires that your Family File is completed BEFORE you can see your child’s teacher in Canvas (during orientation week).
Only familes who have completed the Family File will be able to see their student(s) home room teacher during orientation week.
Every year HCPSS parents must complete a Family File for each child. HCPSS utilizes Family File for parents/guardians to complete emergency information. Parents/guardians must verify and/or update information for each child, and can do so by logging in to HCPSS Connect PARENT ACCOUNT and selecting the MORE OPTIONS tab on the left and then clicking on Family File.
Once logged in, you will be asked to update or provide the following information:
- Student Information
- Parent/Guardian Contact
- Emergency Contacts
- Medical Information
- Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
- Photo Approval Data Confidentiality
- PTA/PTSA Directory
Again, it is imperative that you complete the Family File in order to receive the name of your child's teacher for the upcoming school year.

Teacher notifications will be through Family File this year. You will be able to see your child's teacher in late August. In order to access your child's teacher, you will need to complete Family File. Please make sure you do this prior to Open House on August 26th.
Supply List for SY 2021-2022
We encourage you to drop off your school supplies during Open House on August 26. Please be sure to clearly label your child's supplies with his/her name.
Kindergarten, Here We Come
Reminders to Start the Year
First Day of School
Assuring all students get home safely is a top priority. You can help make sure that happens! Please have your child arrive at school in the same manner that they will go home. As students arrive, we will record their transportation and give them a tag identifying their bus number. If your child is going home another way than how they arrived, please send a note for the teacher and include relevant information such as the bus they are to take or the method in which they will be going home.School Bus Schedules Online
School bus routes for the coming school year will be available on the HCPSS website, www.hcpss.org, and then updated regularly. Use this link to find your Bus Number, Bus Stop, and Pick Up/ Drop Off times.
Arrival and Dismissal
Arrival:
First Bell: 8:30 a.m. Students enter building
Final Bell: 8:40 a.m. Academics begin
Students arriving after 8:40 a.m. are considered late and must be signed in by a parent or guardian in the front office.
Dismissal:
3:00 p.m. Students stack and pack their materials
3:05 p.m. Car riders, after care, and after school activities are dismissed
3:08 p.m. Bus riders begin dismissal (K, 1, 2)
3:10 p.m. Bus riders continue dismissal (3, 4, 5)
Car Loop Arrival and Dismissal Guidelines
Welcome to another school year at Lisbon Elementary School. In an effort to make the drop off and pick up of students flow as smoothly and safely as possible, we have the following guidelines. We would appreciate your adherence as a consideration to others:
1. When entering the loop, please drive all the way forward. You do not need to wait until you are at the front of the line to allow your child out of the car – we can unload 2-3 cars at one time.
2. Please DO NOT PASS another vehicle while in the carpool line unless directed to do so by a staff member. It is extremely dangerous for vehicles to pull around other vehicles. We appreciate your patience.
3. Please DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR UNATTENDED EITHER FOR ARRIVAL OR DISMISSAL. If you need to get out of your car, you should park your car in the overflow lot and walk your child over to the school. Please kiss your children and give them their lunch money before you get into your car at home. The drop off loop needs to run safely and efficiently, therefore, take care of good-byes and last minute issues ahead of time.
4. Students should only be dropped off & picked up curbside. Please do not allow your children to exit or enter the vehicle on the driver’s side. Students are not permitted to walk across the carloop without a staff member to meet you on the other side.
5. Please do not back up or do a “U turn” at the entrance to the loop.
6. Exit by driving straight out of the loop to either Church Alley or Rte. 144. DO NOT drive thru the bus lanes.
7. Parents with handicapped students should park in the designated handicapped parking spaces if the student needs assistance entering or exiting the car.
8. For the safety of our students, please do NOT drop them off prior to 8:30 a.m.
Family Directory
If you would like to connect with other LES families and friends, you can download our school’s directory in the HCPSS Parent Portal! To access the directory, use your login credentials for HCPSS Connect, click “more options” on the left hand panel, and then click “School Directory” to view. Families may decide if they would like to be included in the directory by updating emergency contact information each year and sharing your preferences.
Volunteers:
Based on HCPSS policy, all parent volunteers must complete both the Confidentiality Training Course about protecting the privacy of our students, staff, and schools as well as the Child Abuse and Neglect Training for parents. Please complete these courses before registering to volunteer in a classroom.
The courses takes about 15 minutes to complete and is available at http://www.hcpss.org/parents/volunteer-information/
Technology
Any student who borrowed a Chromebook last year may continue to use that device during the 2022-2023 school year. Every student new to HCPSS will have access to a chromebook; parents/guardians do not need to do anything to request this device. Details for student devices will be communicated as soon as they are available.
HCPSS Credentials for New Students
Beginning this week, families with students new to HCPSS and whose registration has been finalized will receive an email from noreply@hcpss.org with the subject “Technology account information for new HCPSS student.” The email will be sent to the email address used during the student registration process. The email contains personalized and important information regarding new students’ technology accounts. If you have a child new to HCPSS and do not receive the email and/or cannot locate the email in the junk/spam folder of the email account you used during registration, you can use the Forgot Password or Username button on the hcpss.me student landing page to retrieve both your child’s username and password. Directions for Account Self Service directions are posted online.
Here are some translated messages for new Synergy families:
