Making a difference today to create a better tomorrow.

I BELIEVE you matter!!
I Believe in Helping Others Succeed
"Good enough isn't good enough if it can be better. Better isn't good enough if it can be best."
What are we doing to help our students succeed? The most powerful thing that Top 20s bring is a belief in the potential of our students, the belief that our students can learn. Modeling our beliefs allows us to grow our influence to make an impact. Rigsby suggests we don't judge, we show up early, be kind, be sure the servant's towel is huge and used, that if we do something we do it the right way, that it's never wrong to do the right thing, and that how we do anything is how we do everything. Top 20s come together every day, modeling and helping others succeed to make our schools a place where potential really explodes. This week, I challenge you to make an effort to model your beliefs and note the impact on our students.
"If you want to make an impact, find a broom. How are you living?"
RICHMOND RECOGNITION
Shout out to Carrie and Patty for their roles with our students at the 5th Grade Kindness Retreat held at CSE and Discovery Elementary this past Tuesday! The day focused on being kind to make our school a better place, how bullying hurts, and how to be a hero. Each student filled out a Kindness Boomerang Card, stating specific ways they will show more kindness to their teachers and classmates Thank you for making a difference today to create a better tomorrow!
First 6 Weeks: Maintenance
“We need to approach the issues of classroom management and discipline as much more than what to do when children break the rules and misbehave. Rather than simply reacting to problems, we need to establish an ongoing curriculum in self-control, social participation, and human development. We need to accept the potential of children to learn these things, and the potential of teachers to teach them. “ (Charney, p.9)
Classroom Celebrations are a fantastic way to celebrate the efforts of our first six weeks.
They are an opportunity to find the positive in every student and are important for creating a positive school. Classroom celebrations should include all students. Set small, reachable goals at first. All students need to experience success in order to work for it. Some students will need more instruction or differentiation. Classroom celebrations are allowed once a week and should happen a minimum once a month.
What does a classroom celebration look like?
· 20-30 minutes of organized choice time
· Students are free to sit wherever they want in the classroom
· Play a game together
· Read to a younger class
· Cover tables with roll paper and let students draw/color/stamp...
· Dance, listen to music
· Go to the computer lab
· A night of no homework
· Let a student be the teacher
· Invite a guest to come to the room
· Do an art project
· Decorate the room or hall
· Make a poster together for the gym/cafeteria
· Teacher eats lunch with students
· Free reading time
· Extra recess
· Free time in the gym
· Help the teacher
· Popcorn party
