A Note from Dr. Hitchman...
As we move into the month of June, our thoughts turn to end-of-year events and summer vacation. This year is a little different than years past. For one thing, we are attending school in-person; the first for most students, staff, and parents since 2019. This year we also have 11 days of school during the month of June. In most classes, students are working collaboratively and creating projects which represent what they have learned this year. As I mentioned in May’s newsletter, due to testing and the number of days in the 4th marking period, there may not be as many grades in the teacher gradebook as there were in previous marking periods. I encourage students and parents to check StudentVue or ParentVue on a regular basis so there are no surprises at the end of the school year. This is also a reminder that there is no 50% floor for a grade earned during the 4th marking period. Additionally, eligibility for fall sports is based on 2nd semester grades. Students must pass 5 classes in order to be eligible to participate in fall sports and also attend tryouts for winter sports. This is an important marking period and every grade and assignment counts. While there is a tendency to count the number of days remaining, it is important we make each day count!
Over the course of the next three weeks we will be holding awards ceremonies, special events for seniors, and conducting our very first graduation ceremony. As was mentioned in this past Sunday’s ConnectEd message, we will be operating on a pep rally schedule on Monday, June 13 and Tuesday, June 14. We will also be operating on a special schedule on Wednesday, June 15 which will allow students to attend all 8 blocks in one day. Please keep these adjusted schedules in mind if you plan on picking up your child from school early on either of these days.
Finally, I would like to thank those of you who were able to attend our biweekly Principal Coffee & Chat Sessions this year. It was wonderful to connect with so many of you and please know we will continue the Coffee & Chat Sessions next year. I also want to thank you for all the support, encouragement, and feedback you have provided. While this is technically our second year, in many ways, it felt like our first. It has been quite the journey this school year. Reflecting on how we started the year, with students and staff wearing masks and other limitations due to the pandemic, it has been wonderful to see the smiling faces, growth, and accomplishments of our BOLTS! I am extremely grateful and proud to serve as the principal of Lightridge. While I will miss the Class of 2022, I look forward to our future. Thank you for taking the time to read our final newsletter of the year and together, we light the way!

Yearbook Distribution Day is coming! The 2022 yearbook staff is proud to present the second volume of The Strike. The team is looking forward to distributing this year's yearbook on Thursday, June 2nd during the school day.
Thursday will be dedicated to distributing books to those who pre-purchased their yearbooks earlier in the year. The schedule for when you will be permitted to pick up your yearbooks is LINKED HERE (and available on the school yearbook page and was provided to your teachers). Please take note of when you are scheduled to pick up your books that day. Teachers will either escort or send students to the auditorium according to your grade level and class.

HOW TO SPEND YOUR SUMMER
Rising Seniors
Rising Juniors
ALL BOLTS MUST LOG 2021-2022 HOURS BY JUNE 30!
FORM WILL REOPEN IN AUGUST for 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR
Lightridge High School encourages students to actively engage in volunteer service throughout high school. Students who demonstrate a strong commitment to service, as evidenced by completing 100 or more hours of service by April of their senior year, will earn a service cord to be worn at graduation. Loudoun County Public Schools does not require volunteer service hours for graduation.
In order to qualify for a service cord, students must submit their volunteer hours each year during the eligibility period for each school year. The Lightridge Volunteer Service Form can be completed as many times as needed throughout the academic year to document multiple volunteer activities and service hours. Students may only count volunteer service hours from the summer before 9th grade through April of senior year. Happy volunteering!
CLASS OF 2023 Senior Portraits
Class of 2023, senior formal yearbook portraits are coming! Please sign up for a portrait session this summer to 100% ensure you are photographed for the 2023 yearbook. Our photo session dates are going to be held June 27-29 here at school.

Immunization Requirements
On July 1, 2021, House Bill 1090 went into effect. This bill amends the minimum vaccination requirements for students attending a public or private elementary, middle, or high school (Code of Virginia § 32.1-46. A.4).
Rising 12th grade students are required to have one dose of Meningococcal Vaccine (MenACWY, Menactra, or Menveo) given at age 16 or older.
Twelfth grade students cannot begin school on August 25th without documentation of the Meningococcal vaccine.
On Tuesday, June 7th, 2022, the Loudoun County Health Department (LCHD) will be at Lightridge High School to administer the Meningococcal Vaccine (MenACWY, Menactra, or Menveo) for those interested. For your student to receive this vaccination at Lightridge, the attached permission slip must be completed and returned to the school nurse ASAP to reserve a space. Below is a link with information regarding Meningitis. If you have any questions, please reach out to Nurse Oxendine at nicola.oxendine@lcps.org.
Strive for a Cord
Happy June!
During the first 3 weeks of May, we administered 1,317 AP Exams and 2,040 SOL Tests. With the exception of a few make-ups and a handful of expedited retakes, we are finished testing for the 2021-2022 school year. I’m so proud of the students who showed up and did their best every day, and so grateful to our amazing counseling department and faculty for their teamwork and willingness to pitch in where needed. Many thanks to all!
I will continue to do everything I can to create a stress-free testing atmosphere for all students and to communicate with students and parents regarding testing dates, times and locations. All communication to students comes through E-Hall Pass and their LCPS issued email account so encourage your student(s) to check both of these sources regularly.
Please do not hesitate to contact me via email if you have questions or concerns about any aspect of testing. You can also go to the Lightridge Testing Office website for the latest testing information.

We are only a couple weeks away from summer and what better way to wrap up the 21-22 school year then with some fun and friendly competition. On Monday June 13th and Tuesday June 14th the last hour of the school day will be dedicated to the following events.
On Monday June 13th we will host the first ever Lightridge HS Field Day! Students in grades 9-11 will be able to sign up to compete on behalf of their class in Basketball, Volleyball or Kickball. Sign up links will be sent out through Schoology on Monday June 6th during strike time. We will also have a faculty team compete in each of the sports. Sign ups for both students and staff are limited to the first 15 registrations per class. Students and faculty may only sign up for one sport. If you are not interested in participating than we encourage you to chose a location to watch and cheer on your class. Basketball will take place in the Main Gym, Volleyball in the Aux Gym and Kickball in the Stadium. Alternatively, students who do not wish to participate in the athletic portion of the event can partake in Lightridge Karaoke. This will be an open mic type of atmosphere, where students can show off their talents and abilities in the auditorium amongst their peers.
On Tuesday June 14th it’s our Juniors Step Up to the Plate event! Our Seniors are gone and it is your time to shine Juniors. What better way to show that you are ready to take on your senior year than to challenge our very own Lightridge Faculty Softball Squad. In order to compete on behalf of your class, the first 15 juniors to sign up will challenge our faculty team in a game of softball in the Stadium! Sign up links will be sent out through Schoology on Monday June 6th during strike time. If you are not interested in participating in the game, we encourage you to come cheer on your favorite team.
One final announcement will go out just before the registration links are released. You will be notified via email if your registration was approved. Only participants with approved registrations and confirmation emails should plan on playing, all other students will be spectators during the events.
