The Howl

Principal's Point
The holiday season is upon us which means the first semester is quickly winding down! We've got three weeks of learning to go before 2021 officially comes to an end and I know our scholars and teachers are ready to get after it!
Timbers Elementary is an amazing place to learn and we cannot express how grateful we are to our Timberwolf community for all of the support we received in this semester's fundraisers (Big Kahuna and Read-a-thon). Thanks to your generosity and the generosity of your family and friends, we have funds to spend on instructional resources, technology, and positive behavior incentives! Thank you so much for always supporting our scholars and staff!
I've missed our scholars this past week and cannot wait to see them on Tuesday. Let's have a great week on purpose!
Assistant Principal's Piece
Regular school attendance is an essential part of a scholar's success starting in Pre-kindergarten and continuing through high school. Scholars who are absent from school miss out on learning. Improving scholar attendance is a key strategy to ensure they are on-track to learn and to reach their full potential. Parents and families play a key role in making sure scholars get to school every day and on time.
Did you know?
- Children who miss too many days in kindergarten and 1st grade are much less likely to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade.
- By 6th grade, chronic absence is a proven early warning sign for children at risk for dropping out of school.
- In the 9th grade, school attendance is a better indicator than test scores of a scholar’s likelihood to graduate from high school.

News You Can Use
Reporting Cases of COVID-19
Please continue to keep scholars home if they are not feeling well and have symptoms that are associated with Covid-19. Reach out to our registrar, Erika Bryant, to alert her to your child's absence so that they absence can be excused. Please note that scholars who are absent for 3 days or more must return with a written excuse, preferably from a doctor. We thank you for doing your part to keep our school healthy. We, too, are working to keep everyone healthy and safe by minimizing touchpoints, limiting the sharing of materials, cleaning common areas more frequently, misting classrooms nightly, spacing scholars out in the cafeteria during lunch, having classes play in separate recess zones, reminding scholars to wash their hands for at least 20 seconds whenever they go to the restroom, frequently using hand sanitizer and keeping hand sanitizing stations located throughout the campus, having masks available to anyone who would like to wear one, and using bottle fillers instead of the water fountains.

Celebrating Our Staff
"My son is reading for Read a Thon tonight and has identified sight words and punctuation as well as stating the problem, solution, and characters. When he gets to "talking marks" he reads the words in a different voice. Way to go Mrs. McIntosh for teaching him these skills so early!"
