Meadowbrook News
September 9, 2022
From Mrs. Sawatzky
Good afternoon Meadowbrook,
I am excited to let you know that we have decided to bring back #FridaysFinest as a way to recognize all the great ways that our students show up each day. Mr. Lawson and I collaborate with our staff to identify students that we see being awesome, call the caregivers and share the good news, and then take and share a picture of the group. As a Meadowbrook community, let's collectively celebrate these awesome humans each week!
If you need to pick your child up during the school day, we ask that you follow this procedure:
- Call the school office (952-988-5100) when you are five minutes away from Meadowbrook. We will have your child waiting in the office.
- When you arrive, pull up to Door A along the curb.
- We will then walk your child out to you. Please know that calls before 3:30pm are appreciated.
Last year we heard from caregivers that they felt disconnected from their child(ren)'s learning due to the pandemic and restrictions on volunteering/visiting during the school day. Therefore, we've brought back Curriculum Night (September 20) and welcome you to volunteer during the school day or just come for lunch! Please contact your child's classroom teacher(s) regarding volunteer opportunities and see the flyer coming home today regarding Curriculum Night.
In partnership,
Natalie
Join us for Curriculum Night
Curriculum Night is an opportunity for parents and caregivers to meet our classroom and specialist teachers and learn about the curriculum areas students will experience this year. This is an event for parents and caregivers only. Flyers were sent home today with more details!
When: Tuesday, September 20, 6:00-7:30pm
Social-Emotional Learning Survey September 21 - October 5
Building our social-emotional learning skills is an important goal for our school this year. We will be asking for your 3-6th grade child to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will be completing at school in their homerooms. We will be asking home teachers to reflect on K-2 children.
The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on social and emotional competencies that align with the Hopkins graduate traits outlined in the district's strategic plan (e.g., sense of belonging, and rigorous expectations).
We are asking that all our students participate in the surveys. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they can skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential. We are partnering with a third-party vendor to support us in administering these surveys. If you have any questions about the SEL survey or would like information about opting out, please don’t hesitate to contact us. You may also choose to opt your student out of this survey no later than September 19th.
Picture Day
Picture Day is Tuesday, September 27!
You can order before Picture Day on mylifetouch.com with our school's ID: EVT7VJ3SX
Additionally, Picture Day flyers will be sent home next Friday.

Art Adventure is back for the 2022 - 2023 School Year!
The Art Adventure program will be back again this year in January of 2023. We are currently seeking in-room volunteers to help share an appreciation for art with our scholars at Meadowbrook. The commitment is just three sessions but the experience to interact with kids in the classroom is priceless!
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING?
Art Adventure is a wonderful way to engage with students and become a memorable part of their classroom experience. Sign up to lead (often entertaining and insightful) discussions with students about artwork from the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) collection. No previous experience is required and no art or art history education is needed at all! All training provided by Mia. Most sessions are delivered in-person but virtual sessions can also be offered.
Looking forward to connecting! Please email us with your desire to participate or any questions about the program - mbartadventure@gmail.com

Welcome in 2022-23 with HEF
Hopkins Education Foundation has been marking each new school year with the Annual Rock-N-Royal Block Party for nine years and running and we sure hope that you will continue this tradition with us as we celebrate this new school year!
We're closing the block again this year and adding some new fun while welcoming back some of our favorites to Rock-N-Royal! Del Sur Empanadas' food truck will be joining Thirty Bales and together they will supply both sweet and savory flavors along with the best of summertime grilling. There will be outside bar stations available for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Get your game on! This year we are hosting our first ever Cornhole Tournament also known as the HEF Cornament which is already proving to be a hit (sign up to play today as teams are limited)!
With no shortage of fun on hand, Watson, the five-member band, will keep us on our feet and dancing in the street with their modern classic rock! Visit www.hopkinseducationfoundation.org to buy tickets, register for the Cornament, and get more info. We can't wait to see you there!
