💭 Superintendent's Message
Dear Northfield School District Families:
Welcome to February! February is Black History Month — a month where we celebrate the amazing accomplishments and contributions of Black Americans to our nation. Black history is American history. Here are several excellent resources to explore with your family:
The National Museum of African American History and Culture has a Black History Month week-by-week resource, focused on this year’s theme of the arts.
The Minnesota History Center’s Black History, Black Voices page shares resources about Black Minnesotans contributions to our state.
The National Archives “holds a wealth of material documenting the African American experience,” including a research page and specialized resources in its catalogues.
Please do your part to help our community celebrate Black History Month!
February is also I Love to Read Month. It is celebrated throughout the district and community. Our district is focused on helping every student learn to read proficiently. We also have a great partnership with our community! Recently, the United Way raised $54,000 to support ensuring Rice County children have access to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. This program provides participating families with a free book each month. It is a key component in helping support children’s reading development.
The district and our schools will share resources throughout the month — you can learn about how you can support your students’ literacy with this parent literacy guide from Reading Rockets!
As always, please connect with me if you have questions or feedback about the district.
Sincerely,
Matt
