Halloween Dress up on Monday, October 31
We are excited to see you in costumes on Halloween! In order to make the day a success, we want to go over a few guidelines. Most importantly, all costumes must be school appropriate.
The following items are not allowed:
Masks, face coverings or anything that impedes vision
Weapons of any kind (real or toy)
Anything that promotes drugs or alcohol
Anything that involves ethnic or racial stereotypes
Please remember that this is still a school day. Students are expected to fully participate in each class throughout the day. Students should bring a change of clothing, in case their costume is deemed inappropriate or becomes distracting to the learning process. We are looking forward to everyone following the guidelines, coming up with creative costumes, and having fun!
Note: The same costume guidelines apply for the Halloween Party on Friday, 10/28/22.

District 30’s Response to Bullying
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. We wish to raise awareness and increase understanding about bullying prevention through our curriculum and school-wide programming. We are fortunate that District 30’s students consistently demonstrate respect and care, which are aligned with our core values from Character Counts! Even though that is the norm, isolated incidents of conflict and even bullying can and do occur that require attention and growth as we go through these years. Please know that we are partners with both issues when they involve our students and impact our schools.
For isolated incidents of conflict, we address them with all involved and have high expectations that they will not continue. If conflicts become ongoing and meet the definition of bullying, they are addressed through Board Policy 7:180 Prevention of and Response to Bullying, Intimidation, and Harassment.
Any form of bullying will not be tolerated in District 30. Bullying includes cyberbullying and means any severe or pervasive physical or verbal act or conduct, including communications made in writing or electronically, directed toward a student or students that has or can be reasonably predicted to have the effect of one or more of the following:
Placing the student or students in reasonable fear of harm to the student or student's person or property
Causing a substantially detrimental effect on the student or student's physical or mental health
Substantially interfering with the student’s or students’ academic performance
Substantially interfering with the student’s or students’ ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by a school
Students are encouraged to immediately report bullying when experienced or witnessed. A report may be made orally or in writing to any District 30 staff member with whom the student is comfortable speaking. Additionally, anyone, including staff members and parents/guardians, who has information about actual or threatened bullying is encouraged to report it to the administration or a staff member.
Upon receipt of a bullying report, the administrators will act swiftly to conduct a bullying investigation and respond with appropriate actions to support the victim and prevent further inappropriate behaviors from occurring. Those conducting the investigation will be in contact with the parents/guardians of both students, the alleged offender, and the victim, throughout the process to allow both students the support to proceed from this situation primed for future success.
Bicycle Safety Reminders
Students may ride their bicycles to school and we encourage this practice. Bicycles should be walked on the sidewalks leading in or out of Maple School and locked in the bike racks. Students should wear bicycle helmets at all times when riding. When riding on sidewalks in and around Maple, please obey all pedestrian signs and signals, yield the right of way to pedestrians on sidewalks or crosswalks, and slow down and provide an audible signal (such as a bell or horn) to alert your presence before passing a pedestrian from behind.

Nomination Petition Deadline is Dec. 19
Northbrook/Glenview School District 30 will have four school board seats to be filled at the Consolidated Election on April 4, 2023. Candidates who are elected will fill four-year terms expiring in April 2027.
