Cast Med High School
Cast Med High School and Partners
CAST Med High School presented to the partners students the much needed doctors and researchers in the San Antonio area.
The high school will open to students across Bexar County in August 2019 at Brooks, a mixed-use development on San Antonio’s south side, beginning with 9th grade.
Students enrolled in CAST Med will follow one of three pathways:
- Biomedical Research
- Medical Professionals
- Public Health Professionals
The Partners students heard first hand the schools intent to provide high school students a strong foundation, especially in mathematics and science, so that they can be successful once they enroll in college and achieve their medical career aspirations. College coursework will be embedded in classroom curriculum, allowing students to graduate with a high school diploma and a minimum of 30 hours of college coursework.
Students also will have the opportunity to learn from industry partners and gain real-world experience through extracurricular study groups, summer enrichment programs, job shadowing, mentorships, internships, volunteer experiences, and clinical and research opportunities.
Partnerships
UT Health, UT health San Antonio, UTSA and the San Antonio College are partnering up with Cast Med SAISD since the schools are designed as professional development laboratories. Teachers from the elite health systems will collaborate with SAISD Cast Med master teachers to assist in planning and in the curriculum design process for CAST Med, as well as help implement the summer programs.
