Joy's Thoughts
FIRST, IT'S JEANS DAY FOR BURLESON OPPORTUNITY FUND PARTICIPANTS! I love jeans on a Monday. Don't forget your sticker AND tell kids why you're wearing the jeans! We are looking for 100% participation. You can never tell what there may be in store IF we all participate. Encourage each other and let's get it done.
I hope this finds you ready for the next grading period to begin. Whether you are a Kinder and 1st grade teachers or a 2nd - 5th grade teacher, it is important to be well prepared for the questions that may arise from the report cards or progress reports. Remember to make sure parents are well aware of our goal to focus on reading and writing so that everyone is working hard to be on or above grade level. In order to get better support from parents, they need to know the current level of their child as well as tasks and activities they can participate in to help the progress.
Speaking of reading progress, I appreciate everyone who shared their updated data. In order for me to stay on top of where we are and the areas of greatest need, I depend on you to stay current and documented. Remember each month, every child not on grade level must be assessed. We will be addressing progress made during the first month of school in PLC this week. Has your class % moved? Has your grade level % moved? Has the school % moved? You make a difference.
At our last faculty meeting, we talked indepth about where we are as a campus in terms of current reading status of students. We talked about our goals and I ask you to set team goals based on your current reality and some have shared the results. Make sure to do so if you have not. Also, I asked you to make sure you set your goals for T-TESS (Personal and Student Academic Goals.) Again, I received some but not everyone. Get those turned in as soon as possible.
I started meeting with teachers last week for Goal Setting meetings. Wow! I loved these meetings and I continue to learn so much. Thanks for taking the time to prepare for and attend your meeting. These conversations will help you be ready to focus and be better than you have ever been before. (It's going to be a great year. I can tell.)
Dave and I will be attending training on how to get serious about not only setting goals but staying committed every week and seeing our goals until they are accomplished. We will bring back to you the way we will EXECUTE and ACCOMPLISH the goals we've set out to accomplish.
I appreciate the showings for parents that were performed last week. The end of the first Studio Time came quickly but students had the opportunity to perform and that matters. Thanks!
In other news...
I want to say a huge thanks to Debra for getting our students to the Midday Burleson Rotary this week. I have heard great things about the performance and I look forward to hearing more as we continue to get into the community.
Here is a copy of this week's Parent Newsletter. If there is a problem or missing information, make sure to let me know as soon as possible. I can make correction as needed. It is extremely important to make sure the calendar is up to date at all times. Kendra updates the Bransom Calendar and I update the Family Calendar so let us know what your team needs to add to the calendar.
Thanks for a great week behind and a great week ahead!!
Just some personal stuff I like...
Dave's News
Soon you will receive an email from NWEA to set up an account for MAP Growth and Professional Development (testing teachers only). There are two different sites you will need to create accounts for and you can use the same login and password for both accounts. We will be accessing these sites at PD on Friday, October 6 . Please be sure to set up your accounts BEFORE Friday. The temporary links you will be sent from NWEA/MAP expire after 24 hours, so be sure to set up your accounts ASAP and can access both sites.
Battle of the Boot contest between BHS and CHS. Centennial High School has asked us to help them in the annual Harvest Bowl Food Drive contest against Burleson HS. This year they are collecting macaroni and cheese and the goal this year is 5,000 boxes of mac & cheese for Harvest House.
If you’re class would like to participate, please begin advertising with your class the contest. Last day to collect mac & cheese is Thursday, October 19. Class that collects the most boxes of mac & cheese will receive a class party!
Let’s fill the boot!

Character Essays
Walk-Throughs
We all know what good instruction should sound like and look like, right? Let's do our best to do our best for the students. PLCs is a great time to discuss what change can look like.
Things that need addressing:
Thinking Pathways (Vocabulary)
Matching LT with instruction
Engaged students without chaos
Reading instruction in all subjects
Writing reflection/creation throughout the day
Thanks for working to make this the most productive year yet.
