News From John Tuck Elementary (May 2020)
Principal's Message
Dear Tornado Families,
It is almost unfathomable to think that as I write this it has been seven weeks since we received the news that we would be closing schools for the unforeseeable future. In fact, the original anticipated return date was April 28th, which has now come and gone. Nevertheless, we press on and like you our staff continues to make adjustments on a daily basis. I choose to look at this as an opportunity to learn and grow. Kudos to all of you who have stepped in to support your children in engaging in our new distance learning platform and for your patience with a whole new world of technology that is being used to deliver and help facilitate learning.
As we move forward our school is in the thick of planning for next Fall and our anticipated return to the school and way of life we much prefer and love. We will be tackling class placements, wrapping up student learning plans, preparing to add kindergarten back to our school and looking for opportunities to provide closure to this year through possible events in August.
In addition, we are losing a couple of key members from the John Tuck PTO, who have done a tremendous amount of volunteer work to support our school community the past several years. Michele Hyde, Treasurer and Student Store Manager as well as Amy Stancliff, Co-Vice President are moving on as their final Tornado's are heading to middle school next year. If you are interested in becoming a part of our awesome PTO team, please contact PTO President, Misty Beach to learn about opportunities to support and serve. Misty can be reached at mrsmistybeach@gmail.com.
Once again, thank you for your support and grace during this time. We look forward to continuing to partner with you to support students the best we possibly can during these times.
We miss you all and are counting down the days when we can return to the sounds of laughter, learning and joy with our amazing students at John Tuck.
Yours in Service,
Dusty Porter

News From F.A.N.
I hope all of you are continuing to stay healthy and safe at home and are adjusting to our “new normal.” Unfortunately, for the remainder of this school year I will not be available to meet with families in person or receive messages on my school office phone. But if you need assistance in accessing resources to support your family at this time, please email me at jennifer.summerton@redmondschools.org or text me at (541) 728-2754 (text-only line) and I will reply as soon as possible.
Hopefully everyone who needs a Chromebook or internet access for their student is all set up now. But if you still need a Chromebook, please contact your child’s teacher. If you need help with internet access, please email or text me.
If your family is in need of food at this time, please let me know. There are many community food resources available, in addition to the “grab and go” food distributed by RSD Nutrition Services. I’d be happy to connect you to a resource that’s close to your home and convenient for you to access.
Here are some other general resources you might find helpful:

Please stay home and stay healthy, and don't hesitate to contact me if you need assistance.
