News and Notes from the Principal
Short week but a good week, the students have done an amazing job being back in school and falling into the new routines. Closing in on our first full month of school, it is important that parents are cognizant of where your students are within class and how they are progressing academically. Many teachers have begun assessing, adding grades daily and providing general feedback. All of this information and more can be found by logging in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal, if you need access please stop by and see Ms. Katie Spivey in the East Campus Front Office.
Two additional BIG announcements this week include the following:
- ALL meals for ALL students will be served free of charge for the remainder of the 1st semester.
- RHHS will begin serving breakfast on Friday, September 18, 2020 and will serve breakfast daily. All students are welcome to enjoy a grab and go breakfast each day!
Just a few reminders below:
- If your student is not feeling well, please do NOT send them to school. With concurrent learning they have the opportunity to take advantage of the curriculum even when not present - they can log into their google meets.
- Face Coverings are to be worn at ALL times while on campus, when lunch is not being consumed.
- Congregation before/after school is strongly discouraged. If we want to maintain in-person schooling it is important that we ALL work together to make this happen.
- If your child is unable to attend school due to COVID-related symptoms please be sure to contact the school to speak with the nurse: (tparker@bryan.k12.ga.us or dfoster@bryan.k12.ga.us) - All attendance related notes should be submitted to Ms. Carolyn Oetjen via email at (coetjen@bryan.k12.ga.us)
- eLearners are expected to follow the same schedule and meet the same expectations regarding timely arrival, interactions, assignment completion, etc. as their in-person counterparts.
Our staff continues to impress and truly make a positive mark on this 20-21 school year! The relentless efforts and upbeat attitudes show the resiliency of both the educators and students in such unique times! After all, we are #BetterTogether #WeAreRH!

7 Mindsets Curriculum
The 7 Mindsets are based on a three year research effort that began with the simple question: What do the world’s happiest and most successful people have in common? In search of the answer, we studied many of the happiest and most successful people who’ve ever lived. We reviewed the most extensive and important studies on personal achievement ever conducted. And we personally interviewed 400 leading experts, some of the most successful men and women of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Our research revealed that the answer wasn’t related to gender, ethnicity, or where they lived in the world. It had nothing to do with being raised in a loving home or a broken one. It didn’t matter if their families were rich, middle class, or impoverished. It wasn’t even connected to how far they advanced in school or the skills they acquired along the way. In fact, it turns out that the game- changing commonalities of happiness and success are based on how the world’s most successful people think.
What emerged from our research was a set of seven mental habits foundational to an enriched life. The 7 Mindsets are a comprehensive blueprint for happiness, intentionality and success, written in simple, powerful language to teach and activate success strategies for people to live the lives of their dreams.
Artist of the Week - National Arts in Education Week
During this pandemic, students of all ages have found much needed solace and support through the visual arts, as their teachers provide valuable remote learning opportunities. Students learn to create, respond to, and make connections to the visual world around them and rely upon the arts for social emotional learning, expression, and support. They experience the visual arts each day through their own creativity or through objects and media they encounter.
An education rich in the visual arts provides a means to understand ourselves and the broader world around us, to unpack history and culture, express complex ideas, formulate innovations, and generate creative solutions. These outcomes can be achieved for an entire school community simply by investing in elementary, middle, and high school visual arts programs. An investment in visual arts education can yield powerful results, and we know that the career marketplace has an ever-increasing need for visual, digital, and creative skills that a quality visual arts education can provide.
Whether through direct arts instruction, working on a collaborative community mural, or by gathering to celebrate the annual student art exhibition, the arts have a unique ability to build connective fibers among students, teachers, families, and local leadership. We need these connections now more than ever, especially for our students facing systemic, socioeconomic, techno-logic, and geographic challenges.
We appreciate your continued support as we celebrate visual arts/design education, and all its benefits, in our students’ lives.
Advanced Placement Exams
Taking Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. Richmond Hill High School expects that all students take AP exams for the AP classes in which they are enrolled. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant amount of money on tuition. For the 2021 AP exams, students at Richmond Hill High School will be registering online. Online Exam registration is open now and will end for the year on Mon, Mar 1, 2021 at 11:59 PM. Register and pay for exams at www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/112525. This year each AP exam costs $100.00, with the exception of AP Seminar and AP Research ($145). The state of Georgia pays for ONE exam for each student who is taking a STEM exam (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). Also, students who qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch are eligible for their first exam free and receive a fee reduction on any other exams. If you fall into either of these categories (STEM or Free/Reduced lunch), be sure to answer appropriately during the registration process. Registration ends and payment is due for courses beginning in Semester 1 by Friday, October 30. Registrations and payments after this date will incur a $40 late fee per exam. There will be another registration and payment window for courses beginning in second semester. Please contact Mrs. Merry Tanner, mtanner@bryan.k12.ga.us if you have any questions.
