Quest - A Letter from Lindsay Smith

Dear Bridge Valley Families,

I am very excited to begin my QUEST adventure at Bridge Valley this year. I have been a 5th grade teacher at BVE for the past five years. Although I am not new to the building, I am looking forward to working with many new faces. QUEST, the program for all students in Grades 1-6, stands for "Questioning and Understanding in Engineering, Science, and Technology". The goal of our program is to provide students with real-world problem solving opportunities, while also highlighting the 4C’s of QUEST: Collaboration, Creativity, Communication and Critical Thinking. Through this type of learning, your child will develop skills needed for 21st century jobs and experiences. Project-based learning activities will challenge children to think "outside the box" and learn to discover ways around problems, through testing, analysis, and redesign.

In the QUEST classroom, children will be working on many exciting projects, from software programming to building catapults to constructing systems. Each grade level will be taught a variety of units throughout the year, which they will be sure to enjoy. Due to the nature of this class, your children will be using a lot of recyclable materials. Below you will find a list of some materials we will be using. If you would like to donate any of these items, it would be greatly appreciated.

Please feel free to stop by and check out the QUEST classroom, Room 176 (between the art and music room) during your Back-to-School-Night visit next week. These first two weeks of QUEST have certainly been exciting. It is great to see students enthusiastic about learning, working together with peers, and working productively through the Engineering Design Process already! I am confident that we will have a successful and meaningful school year together.

"Your brilliant first failure was a raging success!"

Mrs. Lindsay Smith, M.Ed.
