Veterans' Voice

Spring 2016

In January, the VA informed Moraine Valley Community College that students using VA benefits are required to meet Standards of Academic Progress (SAP) in order to continue using VA benefits. Students who fail to meet these standards will need to file an appeal with the Financial Aid Office before they can continue to use VA benefits. Financial Aid will make the final determination on all appeals. Please visit the Moraine Valley website for specifics. Contact our office if you have any questions or concerns.

A New Face in the Crowd

The Veteran's Service Office welcomes our new Veteran's Coordinator Gregg Beglau. Prior to joining our team on January 11, he spent the past 13 years teaching many subjects at various levels from 6th grade through post-baccalaureate in Chicago and the south suburbs. He won't bore us with the details. Gregg is also a 14 year veteran of the United States Navy and is still serving in the Navy Reserves. After completing 6 years of active duty, Gregg completed his studies at DePaul University in Chicago earning a BA in History and American Studies followed by a Masters in Education. He and his amazing wife, Kristen, a Richton Park police officer, have a 13 year old son and a 21 month old daughter that keep them pretty busy.

Gregg's door is always open and is eager to get to know each of you. His desire to see you succeed is what drives him in his new role here at Moraine Valley. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions, concerns or suggestions to make your experience at Moraine the best possible.

Farewell Linda

Thank you for your service Linda. We appreciate the year you dedicated to the Veteran's Resource Center and the Combat to College student organization. You will be missed. Good luck in your future endeavors and we look forward to you visiting.

Please Remember to Update Your Course Selection Form

If you change your enrollment, it is imperative that you come to the Veteran's Resource Center to update your Course Selection Form. If you fail to do this, your VA certification will not reflect the changes resulting in a balance on your student account and a debt to the VA. Any questions? Contact the Veteran's Resource Center.

Emergency Medical Services (EMT-P, Paramedic) at Christ Hospital

The Moraine Valley Financial Aid office is no longer able to certify tuition for the EMS Academy at Christ Hospital to the VA. Students will be responsible for all tuition and fees due to Christ Hospital for the EMS academy, and will not receive a reimbursement for tuition paid. Students in the EMS Academy at Christ Hospital will still be eligible to receive BAH and book stipend during their time in the Academy.

Students in the Emergency Medical Services Degree (Curriculum Code 1332) are not affected by this change.
