SRTS Meeting Minutes
March 11, 2020
Attendance
Regrets: Celia Piper, Jennifer King, and Darren Bishop
Committee Mandate
To make it both safer and easier for students to travel to and from school.
Rationale
Active transportation promotes good student health and has been shown to have a positive impact on learning. It also has a positive impact on the environment.
Responsibilities of the Committee:
Key concerns from our January 13th, 2020 meeting with City Transportation Department Staff:
-Congestion out in front of the school
-Students crossing through the parking lot either alone or with their parent(s)
-Intersection of Milford and Danbury Road
-Intersection of Truedell Road and Development Drive
Expression of Interest Surveys
We discussed whether a range of interests would make sense for committee representation i.e. parents that live nearby, Having students who will be continuing at the school for a number of years would also be helpful. Parents with specific expertise would also be helpful.

Seeking Input from all Stakeholders
Education for Students
Questions?
Can we do our walkabout in the spring while the weather is nice?
Do drivers have a legal obligation to stop at pedestrian crossings or are these just courtesy crossing?
We wondered if we might revisit the idea of a "Walking School Bus".
We wondered about creating a path through Ashton Park. There is a gravel path but it is not always plowed.
How will the city co-ordinate its efforts with Facilities Services?
Is it possible to move the bus loading zone so that it is not right at the front of the school? Students could exit the bus onto the primary yard and walk to their designated part of the yard.
How can we give the neighbours opportunities for input.
