From The Principal
Dear Illing families
As we begin Memorial Day weekend I want to first recognize and honor all of those who have died while serving in the U.S. military.
When we resume classes on Tuesday there will be just four weeks left and I hope everyone returns rested and rejuvenated so we can finish the year strong. But in the meantime there are two exciting events to remind you about: tonight's school dance and tomorrow's state middle school track meet at Manchester High. We have more information about both events below.
Looking further ahead, 8th grade award ceremonies will take place during periods 6 & 7 on the following days:
- Monday, June 13th -- Team Cornell
- Tuesday, June 14th -- Team Princeton
- Wednesday, June 15th -- Team UConn
- Thursday, June 16th -- Team Syracuse
More information will be sent by team leaders to parents.
Please note that end-of-the-year grades close on Friday, June 17. The following week includes no school on Monday in recognition of Juneteenth followed by half days the rest of the week with emergency dismissal at 11:45 a.m. each day. The last day of class for Illing students is Friday, June 24.
Two more things:
- There has been an increase in students participating in TikTok challenges that can be physically dangerous. I encourage parents and guardians to show interest in your child’s online life and ask questions in an effort to help them become smart and responsible digital citizens.
- We periodically give families the chance to let us know your thoughts on a variety of issues including those related to school climate. If you haven't taken the May survey yet you can do so by clicking here.
I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and, as always, I encourage you to reach out to your child's teacher, school counselor, assistant principal or me with any questions or concerns.

NJHS Is All About Recycling
The National Junior Honor Society is having a can and bottle drive on Saturday, June 4th from 9 to 12 in the Illing parking lot.
How can you help? There are a couple of ways:
First, if you would remind your students to throw their recyclable cans and bottles into a recycling bin. We are hoping that teachers will have dedicated spaces in their classrooms for cans and bottles.
Second, if you want to volunteer on Saturday, June 4th from 9-12, we will be in the parking lot of Illing collecting bottles and cans. You could volunteer (for as little or long as you want!) or you could just swing by and drop off your cans.
The NJHS is raising money (the students haven’t decided yet where the money is going) and raising student awareness around recycling issues.

Volunteers Needed
On Saturday, May 28th, the IMS athletic department will once again be running the concession stand at the middle school state track meet at Manchester High School starting at 9 am. All the proceeds from this concession stand go directly back to IMS Athletics! It’s great opportunity to raise money for some teams that need new uniforms and equipment.
Volunteers are needed -- even for just an hour or two!
And if you are able to donate a case of water or Gatorade (or something else to sell) this would also be greatly appreciated! The more people that help, the easier and more efficient the stand will run, which will hopefully lead to more sales!
