October 24 - Week 8

Help us share some LOVE with our Fort Mill Neighbors

Chapel is a very special time of worship and praise in the Sanctuary. Our Chapel theme this year is "Fruit of the Spirit." We have fun learning about the nine special kinds of "fruit" or character traits that grow in us as we learn to love God with all of our heart.

"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." Galatians 5:22-23

During our next Chapel on October 29 we will talk about LOVE. Unity Presbyterian Church is currently collecting food items for the Fort Mill Care Center to provide a Thanksgiving meal for Fort Mill families. I would love the children to bring an item (or more) to Preschool during the next two weeks. During Chapel, we will discuss loving our neighbors and place our items in the collection bins. The items most needed right now include: rice (1 or 2 pound bags), grits, boxed instant potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, canned pumpkin, evaporated milk and other canned goods. We will collect through October 31.

Monday, October 21 is a Teacher Work Day for the Fort Mill School District. Unity Preschool will be closed.

Color Day - Go ORANGE

Our next Color Day is Thursday, October 31. Please wear Orange or Halloween shirts. We prefer that the children do not wear costumes as they tend to tire of them quickly.

Art By Me Fundraiser

Next week your child will be bringing home an Art By Me Parent Order Form that shows you the artwork created by your child earlier this month. We have used this company for several years and have been exceptionally pleased with the quality of the items. There are over 60 gift items made from your child's art to purchase just in time for Christmas. Each year your child makes a different picture that relates to his/her class animal. Several families have purchased the tiles or Christmas ornaments each year as a reminder of their child's time at Unity Preschool. All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to purchase additional learning materials for our Preschool classrooms.

To place an order:

1. Credit Card Orders: Click the link BELOW to place your order ON-LINE using your unique ART BY ME ARTWORK ID number at the top of the order form by Thursday, October 31; or

2. Cash or Check Orders: Return the Order Form and Payment (Cash or Check made payable to "UNITY PRESCHOOL") to school by Thursday, October 31.

If you are placing an order you need to do so by Thursday, October 31. This is a firm deadline so that we can receive the products before Christmas (our estimated delivery date is December 10). If you do not wish to place an order, feel free to enjoy the pictures of the beautiful art made by your child at the bottom of the order form.

Thanks in advance for your support of Unity Preschool.

VIPs - Volunteers Impacting Preschool

We introduced a new program this year called VIPs (Volunteers Impacting Preschool). Several Unity members have volunteered to help at Unity Preschool: Mr. Alan, Ms. Connie, Ms. Dannie, Ms. Doris, Ms. Jan, Ms. Joyce, Ms. Miranda and Ms. Sharon. They have been background checked and Safe Place Trained. Some are working in the Four's classroom helping at the Math and/or Science Center during Center time. Others are copying, laminating, die cutting and working on various other projects that we need extra hands to do. We are so grateful for their help. Below are some of our VIPs in action.

Meet Ms. Nancy

We are so blessed to have Ms. Nancy as our Music Teacher. Ms. Nancy is a member at Unity and Unity's Coordinator for Outreach and Hospitality. Ms. Nancy is a certified Christian Educator and is an avid Tarheel fan. She loves the beach, reading a good novel, and hamburgers and french fries (Five Guys especially). Some of you will meet Ms. Nancy at our Thanksgiving Feast and will enjoy a selection of songs that she has been teaching the children this fall.

Miscellaneous Reminders

*Directory Update: Directories will be e-mailed today. A hard copy will be in your child's folder next week.

*Label Clothes: Please remember to label jackets/sweaters/extra clothes that you send to school so that we can make sure they go home with the correct child.

*Back-Up Clothes (Fall/Winter): Please include a back-up pair of underwear and pants for your child. We are still having occasional accidents and the children are much happier to put on their own clothes. Please make sure that the clothing is seasonally appropriate.

*Folder Reminder: Please remember to empty your child's folder at least every week!

Upcoming Events

Please mark your calendar for these exciting events:

Thanksgiving Feast (Three's and Four's): November 21 (11:00 - Fellowship Hall) The immediate family is invited to join us for a delicious Thanksgiving meal. We will send invites with additional information in November.

Christmas Celebration (Three's and Four's): December 10 (11:00 - Preschool): A special friend (mom, dad or grandparent) is invited to join his/her child for a special craft and a story from our Storyteller. One of the best presents that you can give your child during this busy time of year is your presence and that is our goal of this Celebration.

Tuition envelopes will be sent home the first week of November (unless you have set up an on-line recurring payment). Tuition is always due on the 10th of each month.
