Tisch's Tidbits
Houses!
Oh, wow! Did we have a fun time on Friday! The kids thought we were getting ready for a huge spelling test, when really it was House Selection Day! After a scavenger hunt around the school, we ended up outside where the kids chose a can of 'House String" (aka silly string). Whatever the color was will be there house for the year! They have already started earning points and are having a ball with it! Today, we played Trashcan Ball while reviewing pronouns and antecedents for House points. School has just been taken to the next level!
A Note from Mr. Gabriel
Hello! My name is Chaz Gabriel, and I am so excited to be in Mrs. Tisch’s classroom this semester. First off, I wanted to tell you a little about myself. I am currently a senior at Butler University (Go Dawgs!). I’m originally from Kokomo, Indiana, where I live with my parents, older brother, and my younger sister. My family loves Disney World and probably goes there way too much for vacation. I’m also a huge basketball fan.
This semester I am really looking forward to learning from your kids. While I am technically their teacher, I am still a student and have so much to learn from them. I have been in the classroom for just over two weeks now, and I can tell that each of them are bright and bring a different dynamic to this classroom. They have already made me feel at home here in Union Elementary!
Parent Teacher Conferences
I will be sending out a link for parent teacher conferences if you would like to meet with me sometime next month. Also, be on the lookout for the Fall Party sign-up for volunteers and those who would like to donate items.
Math Facts
We have completed all of the math fact interviews. Those kiddos who have shown mastery with multiplication were then interviewed for division. Your child has a sheet with all of the multiplication facts. The facts that are highlighted are your child has shown mastery. Those not highlighted are the facts your child will be working on five at a time. Not that it is "homework" but it will greatly help your child if they are working on the five facts in the baggie at home. :) We will be checking in with your child a few times a week only with the facts they are working on at the time. I have no doubt everyone will master both multiplication and division by the end of the first quarter using effort and determination!
Spelling
We have been working through pretesting the kiddos on core spelling word lists. These core word lists are based off of the 1200 most frequently used words in writing, ordered in the frequency utilized in everyday writing. The lists are a compilation of several massive words studies. Similar to math facts, your child has a list of highlighted words they have already shown mastery with spelling. Each week, your child will be selecting 8 words from the list to be working on learning how to spell with testing each Friday. If a word is on your child's list the second week, it is because they need a little more practice with knowing the spelling. If you have questions, please let me know.
Book Fair
This week is the fabulous Book Fair! We previewed the fair today so your child has an idea of books they may like. The fair is open all week so you are free to take your child after school or if you send money with your child, we will shop again on Wednesday.
