Thought from Dr. Pacatte

Throughout the course of this week, I have had a number of meetings regarding the release of the vaccine and the impact on schools. By now, you should have received a copy of the information provided by the Lake County Health Department as to how you can register for the vaccine once it becomes available. I believe their plan has been thoughtful and should allow our residents the ability to participate as the vaccine supply continues to expand, should they choose to do so.

Participation in the vaccination program is a personal decision for everyone including teachers, staff, and parents. At this time, there is no mandate attached to this vaccination and no requirement for it to be taken in order to return to school. Personally, I hope that the vaccination and continued work on treatment for the COVID-19 pandemic will bring down the risks associated with exposure and positive testing. As a long time educator, I have seen school systems work their way through colds and flu, lice, measles, and mumps, etc. As a teacher, I spent a week with eight students because everyone else was home with chicken pox. We adapt and adjust. This has been something else entirely. As the weeks move on, I know fewer and fewer people not impacted by this virus, including my own family.

Despite the continued spread of the virus, the Lake County Superintendents consistently talk with each other and the Lake County Health Department to determine if there are other mitigations that could be put into place to hasten the return of students to the buildings. As noted previously, we will remain in Remote Learning through next week.

Gurnee Park District

Get in the holiday spirit GPD!

On December 20 at 6:30 pm, fill your hearts with the magic of the season by taking a 30-minute walk through your neighborhood or local Gurnee park. Enjoy the holiday lights and decorations!

After your walk, at 7:00 pm please join a community-wide 3-minute ringing of the bells. The ringing of the bells is a way to remind each other that we are united in spirit, even though we may not be able to be together in person.
