Principal's Message
WAY TO GO! Week two was great. As we continue to build and grow a solid foundation, please have daily conversations about what is going on in the classroom. Your Hawthorne staff looks forward to communicating with you and finding great ways to grow our partnership. I challenge each parent to reach out to your student’s teacher in some way this month to check in. I use the REMIND app to keep connected with families. If you have not, please join our school wide REMIND by following the instructions at this website: rmd.at/hawks8301 OR texting 81010 with the message @hawks8301.

PTA News
Why join the Hawthorne PTA?
Joining the PTA allows you to meet some great people. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, to build rapport and discuss issues that are on your mind. You can share ideas, concerns, and experiences to make the school year better for everyone.
The mission of the Hawthorne Elementary PTA is to act in the interest of the children, to encourage understanding and cooperation between parents and teachers, and to promote programs that benefit the success of children’s learning. The Hawthorne PTA supports education through active participation and advocacy.
Hawthorne Elementary has a very active and supportive PTA. We sponsor many fun events throughout the school year including monthly board meetings, skating parties, Kid’s Night Out and the Hawthorne Family Dinner and Basket Auction. We also provide volunteers for many school events as well as provide support for school programs such as Super Reader, Breakfast with Santa and the annual fund raiser. Please join us for a PTA meeting to see what we’re all about.

Hawthorne Visitor Policy
Visitors
Parents and visitors are encouraged to visit Hawthorne Elementary. However, the safety and well-being of our students and staff is very important. According to Warren Board policy, parents must provide advance notice prior to visiting classrooms. (This communication should at least take place prior to the start of the school day.) The Principal will provide guidelines at the beginning of each year. Generally, all visitors must have a scheduled appointment with a teacher prior to conducting a visit or must be escorted by an administrator. Parents must have a background check conducted by the office for any classroom visit longer than 15 minutes. All staff needs to help monitor all visitors in the hallway. If a visitor does not have a pass, please politely ask them to check-in the office for their visitor pass and escort them to the door. If they refuse, say nothing and contact the office immediately. Even parents who visit often MUST register at the office and wear a visitor’s badge. Parents and other family members are always welcome to eat lunch with their child. All students and their visitors that bring in fast food will eat outside of the café and only with their own student. The Principal reserves the right to revoke this privilege if a visitor does not comply with board policy and school expectations.
