Mrs. Donnay's 3rd Grade Classroom Newsletter 2-16-16
Peek at the Week
Students had a great time on Thursday! We enjoyed our Valentine's party and Service Day events! Students met up with their Upper School buddies and spent time having fun together in the classroom, made a special craft that will be delivered to the elderly, played cosmic pin guard, and passed out their Valentines! Lisa H. also donated her hair to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Hair Donation Campaign to make wigs for women with cancer.
LANGUAGE ARTS -
Last week we read a story called “Grandmother Spider Brings the Sun”, which is a folktale about how a bunch of animals stole the sun from the other side of the world. The students also worked on reviewing different types of verbs: action verbs, helping verbs, and being verbs. We will continue this lesson this week. Please remember our Book Club for “Vacation Under the Volcano” will be on Friday.
Students are continuing to learn about Ancient Rome. Currently, we are studying the different Roman Lands and how they conquered them, Roman buildings and statues, and the importance of Aqueducts.
This week, we will begin learning about how to write a research paper. We will be reading a few research papers, studying the parts of a paper, and learning how to pick good topics.
Our spelling test will be on Friday this week. Check out spellingcity.com/ndonnay and practice Unit 4 Lesson 3.
CHARACTER EDUCATION -
Each month students should bring in examples of the monthly character trait to hang on our class bulletin board. DUE February 11. February's trait is Perseverance. Ask your child how they can show perseverance at school and at home.
ASK YOUR CHILD
What was so special about Roman architecture?
What is an aqueduct? How did it help the people of Rome?
How is perseverance related to having a growth mindset?
Give examples of times you have shown perseverance. What are some things coming up that having perseverance will help you?
***Bring an example of PERSEVERANCE in the media and bring it to class to hang on the bulletin board.*** DUE February 11.
