The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board held a public meeting on Monday, March 9. The following are select highlights from that meeting.

Board Recognizes Classified Staff

The School Board read an official proclamation on March 9 to recognize the district's Classified Staff for all that they do for West Linn-Wilsonville students. THe week of March 2-6 was Classified Employee Appreciation Week, highlighting the vital part that classified staff play across West Linn-Wilsonville schools and facilities. Thank you to our dedicated classified staff members!

Board Approves Bond Contracts for Track Replacement at Athey Creek Middle School; Sports Field Lighting at Wilsonville High

The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board approved two contracts for bond projects to be completed this coming summer and fall. The first contract is for synthetic track surfacing at Athey Creek Middle Schools. A second contract for sports relighting at Wilsonville High School baseball fields, football field, and tennis courts was also approved.

District Principals, Teachers Present Mathematics Collaboration Work

Principals and teachers from Trillium Creek, Willamette, and Stafford Primaries gave a joint-presentation to the School Board during the March 12 meeting. The triad of staff members provided information regarding mathematics work that has been underway since Spring 2019.
Focusing on Board Goals, school staff first identified school goals before creating a theory of action and work plan. Through collaboration efforts, staff at each school began projection mapping, unit planning, and assessment to grow student achievement in mathematics while eliminating achievement gaps. District Reviews COVID-19 Updates

Superintendent Dr. Kathy Ludwig provided the Board with an update on COVID-19 during the March 9 meeting. The West Linn-Wilsonville School District continues to follow Oregon Health Authority recommendations and is in daily communication with public health officials.


The district provided the Board with precautions being taken at school, including:


  • Extra cleaning of high-touch areas such as door handles, light switches, bathrooms, keyboards, countertops, phones, etc. across schools and district facilities.
  • Regular cleaning of high-use areas on buses after every run, including handrails, seat tops, steering wheels, and windows.
  • Disinfectant available in every district classroom for use when needed.
  • Continued education of students, staff, and families of proper hand-washing and hygiene best practices.

School Board Tasks Long Range Planning Committee With Land Review

The West Linn-Wilsonville School Board provided direction for the Long Range Planning Committee during the March 9 meeting, tasking the group with reviewing the district's existing land. Of note, the district owns its Frog Pond property in Wilsonville where a new primary school is scheduled to be build as part of the 2019 Bond. The district also owns the Dollar Street property in West Linn, where the new Athey Creek Middle School is planned, and the Oppenlander Property in West Linn.


The LRPC will review district-owned properties and determine the future purpose of each piece of land. The Long Range Planning Committee has historically monitored the district's "land bank" for future school planning. The LRPC will also make recommendations to the Board as to how the district can be explicit with the public about its future intentions for district-owned property.

CREST-Jane Goodall Science Symposium: March 10 — Public viewing for the CREST-Jane Goodall Science Symposium will be held Tuesday, March 10 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at West Linn High School.


SSA Community Forum Part Two: March 12 — The West Linn-Wilsonville School District will host Part Two of its Student Success Act Community Forum on Thursday, March 12, beginning at 6 p.m. at the District Office; 22210 SW Stafford Road, Tualatin. Middle School Science Fair: March 13 — The West Linn-Wilsonville Middle School Science Fair Award Ceremony will be held on Friday, March 13 beginning at 6 p.m. at Meridian Creek Middle School. The judging portion of the science fair will be held on Monday, March 9.


Professional Growth Wednesday: March 18 — Wednesday, March 18 is an early release, Professional Growth Wednesday for all levels. All schools will dismiss two hours early.


Long Range Planning Committee Meeting: March 18 — The Long Range Planning Committee Meeting will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, March 18 beginning at 6 p.m. at the District Office; 22210 SW Stafford Road, Tualatin.
