Aztec Update January 29 2023
Principal's letter for parents and caregivers
22nd week; AUSD Survey Window Closes February 3; SSC Feb 2nd, ELAC Feb 3; Rally Schedule Friday;
Good evening Aztecs!
Last week was packed with future Aztecs visiting AHS and seeing our academic and extracurricular programs in action. Our teachers, students, counselors, classified, and coaches worked very hard to make sure our incoming students were able to see all the opportunities available to them at Azusa HS. We also featured Gladstone clubs and activities that will come over in the merger such as the dance team, the Medical Academy, and the Early College Program. 8th graders toured the campus on Thursday and Friday and had a chance to talk to our current students about the school. It was exciting to see the smiles and energy on campus.
This week we have our ELAC meeting on Friday and our school site council meeting on Thursday afternoon. Female athletes have a "Girls Got Game" field trip on Thursday. We have our winter sports rally on Friday (rally schedule, but school still ends at 3:20pm). ELPAC testing is beginning soon for our EL students in their ELD or LTEL classes so attendance is very important right now for all students.
Annual Azusa USD Family Survey Ends on Feb 3
Please help us get better as a school and district by providing your opinion on Azusa High School. The Youth Truth Survey Window is now open through February 3, 2023. You can access it at the following link:
http://www.ytsurvey.org/azusafamily23
So far we have had 12% of our families complete the survey. Our goal is 30% or more of families completing it. We need about 165 to complete the survey to meet our goal. Your voice matters. Thank you.
FAFSA update
We now have 108 seniors who have completed the FAFSA. The deadline for 1 extra graduation ticket is Jan 31. If your senior has not completed the FAFSA, now is a good time to earn an extra graduation ticket. Please reach out to the guidance office for assistance if you need help with this step. The FAFSA is important for community colleges, trade schools, and 4 year universities because the first step in getting financial aid is completing the FAFSA.
Early College Program with Citrus College (9th graders 23-24 and 11th graders 23-24)
Next year, 9th graders and 11th graders will have expanded opportunities to take college classes with Citrus College to begin earning college credit while enrolled in high school. Currently, parents of incoming ninth graders are being invited to apply to the program at the following link:
The Early College Program coordinator will be visiting 10th grade classrooms to explain the program to current AHS 10th graders on Jan 31. There will be a combined parent night to explain the ECP program to parents of 10th graders on February 8 @6pm in the Azusa HS Library. AHS and GHS parents are invited to attend this very important event to learn more about our 2 year Early College Program.
IB Program Information
For families interested in our IB diploma programme we ask that you visit the IB section on our website and learn more about the program benefits. You can find all the information about our IB program here:

Sports Updates
We want to take a moment to remind our Aztec community about the importance of good sportsmanship and modeling good behavior at our sporting events. There have been recent incidents of questioning and commenting on referees during games from the bleachers and sidelines. We understand the passion of our families, but we need to respect the refs please. CIF is having a hard time filling referee openings and fan behavior is frequently mentioned as a reason that CIF is having a hard time filling openings.
Azusa HS was victorious against Gladstone in the last games in boy's basketball and girl's basketball. Our boys and girls soccer teams lost their final matches against Gladstone. We are eager to see what becomes of our teams next year
