Hampton Bays Middle School
Monday Memo #39
Plan Books
So...we are one week from our last week of school together. It's hard to believe how quickly our year together has gone.
I've been thinking a lot these days about the value of committing myself to sharing a weekly Monday Memo, and, truth-be-told, I am proud that I've held true to the weekly regimen. Thank you for providing me with feedback to let me know when something I shared resonated with you. Please continue to give me feedback of any and all kinds, because it helps me know how I can serve you better, so you can give our students what they need and what they deserve.
July 1 marks the start of my 20th year in Hampton Bays. I'm really proud to be able to say that. And with ten years in the classroom and now ten years out of the classroom, I am reminded of the importance of staying flexible and malleable as a learner, but also of being dependable. I remember being a new teacher (and later a veteran teacher) who always carved out several hours every Sunday to update my plan book. Writing this Monday Memo has returned me to that. And...it's reminded me of the importance of preparation in our roles as educators, regardless of the capacity in which we serve students.
We have to make the time to give our students what they deserve from us.
So this summer, create a plan book that soothes your soul. Relax. Read. Travel. Try something new. Learn. And prepare. Prepare mentally, physically, and emotionally for another great school year in 2016-17.
Because as good our team is, the best is yet to come...
I am proud of your dedication to our students and our program.
Let's finish strong!
Sincerely,
Dennis
