Summer's End

Dear Shepard Staff,

I hope all of you are relaxing and enjoying the last few days of some well-deserved time off! Ben and I have been working full speed ahead to have everything ready for our first Teacher Professional Learning Day on August 10. Paraprofessionals return on August 11. Here is a brief summary of times. I'll add a detailed *tentative* plan for our professional learning below.

Mark your calendars for the following dates:

***Dress code will be casual (shorts) for all days, unless otherwise noted.

Aug 7 New to PISD teachers at Shepard 8:00 AM

Aug 8 &9 New to PISD Teachers at Sockwell Center 8-4:30 PM

Aug 8 Leadership Team meeting in the Shepard conference room beginning at 9:00 AM

Aug 10 All professional teaching staff return….no paraprofessionals yet! Please meet in the library at 8 a.m. for a great day of learning and planning.

Aug 11 ALL Shepard staff members return to campus. We will provide a light breakfast.

Aug 14 District Curriculum PDH (Shepard and Plano Centre) 8:30 am-4 pm.

Aug 15 District Curriculum PDH at Shepard 8 am-4 pm.

Aug 16 & 17 Professional Learning on Campus. You will have the some time to work with your grade level/department teams.

Aug 18 Classroom preparation 7:30 – 3:30 p.m.

Aug 18 Meet the Teacher Event….meet and greet students! 8:00 AM- 9:00 AM

Please wear a Shepard shirt.

August 10th: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

8:00 - 8:20 = Administration Introduction in Library (Kristin and Ben)

8:20 - 9:00 = Introductory Activity (Kristin and Ben)

9:30 - 11:00 = Bowling at Plano Super Bowl

11:00 - 1:00 = Lunch

1:00 - 2:30 = Simon Sinek “Why” activity in library (Kristin)

2:30 - 4:00 = Work in rooms & with teams. Buy Spirit Wear- only chance this week.

August 11th: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

8:00 - 8:30 = Warm Up in library (Ben)

8:30 - 8:50 = Bullying, Crisis Response, Suicide (Erin)

8:50-9:00 BREAK

9:05 - 9:45 = Social Emotional Learning and What it means to kids

9:45 - 11:45 = Nitty Gritty Business (Kristin)

10:00 - 11:30 = Cultural Competency (Ben)

11:30-11:45 Eclipse Talk (Theresa)

11:45 - 1:00 = Lunch

1:00 - 4:00 = Work in Rooms/Team Time

August 17th: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

8:00 - 9:00 = Planning for Social Emotional Learning in library

9:00 - 10:00 = All in Learning

10:00 - 11:30 = TTESS

11:30 - 4:00 = Lunch/ Anything else that needs to be done (Hopefully working in rooms!)

August 18: 7:30 am- 3:30 pm

Sign up for Remind text messages from the office

Kristin has set up a Remind text message system that will send texts to the entire staff all at once. She usually uses it to send reminders in the evening (not too late) and also to announce last minute jeans days. She also uses it during lockdown drills and other emergencies (and would use it in a real lockdown) to communicate silently to the staff if possible. Click this link in order to sign up.
