Get started with QM’s flagship workshop, Applying the QM K-12 Rubric! Get an introduction to QM, learn how to use the Rubric and apply it to a real course. If you are looking to improve your online or blended course design with research supported standards which include annotation and best practices, this professional learning experience is for you! Practice writing helpful recommendations for continuous improvement with the QM Rubric as your guide. This professional learning experience also counts as the first step towards becoming a K-12 Course Reviewer!
APPQMR is a 10 Module Course:

Module 4: Applying the QM K-12 Rubric (Decision Making)
Module 5: Exploring the Importance of Learning Objectives and Competencies
Module 6: Exploring Alignment
Module 7: Official K-12 Review Process
Module 8: How to Draft Helpful Recommendations
Module 9: Drafting Helpful Recommendations
Module 10: Pulling It All Together
APPQMR Workshop participants receive access to the fully annotated K12/K12 Publisher Rubric. A demo online course is reviewed to maintain consistency in QM Specific Standard Review, alignment, and helpful recommendations for the demo course improvement. The APPQMR Workshop does not incorporate every Specific Review Standard in the 3 week course.
What Participants Need:
Approximately 5-7 hours per week for three weeks.
Learning Target
Upon successful completion of this workshop, you will be able to
Identify the origin and scope of Quality Matters.
Identify aspects of the QM K-12 Rubric, Fifth Edition.
Determine if a course meets or does not yet meet Specific Review Standards in the QM K-12 Rubric and support your decisions with evidence from the course.
Apply the concept of alignment.
Identify elements of the official QM course review process.
Draft helpful recommendations for course improvement based on the QM K-12 Rubric Specific Review Standards, Annotations, and evidence from the course.
Specific Standards - National Standards for Online Teaching
A2 The online teacher is a reflective practitioner.
- B3 The online teacher uses different types of tools to interact in online courses in order to nurture learner relationships, encourage learner interaction, and monitor and motivate learner engagement.
- D4 The online teacher establishes relationships through timely and encouraging communication, using various formats.
- E1 The online teacher facilitates learning experiences that model and promote digital citizenship.
- G6 The online teacher assures alignment between the assignments, assessments, and standards-based learning goals.
- H2 The online teacher uses a formative approach to lesson design.

Details, Costs and Registration
COURSE LENGTH: 3 weeks (Approximately 15 hours over 3 weeks)
DELIVERY MODE: Online Asynchronous
QM CERTIFIED FACILITATOR: Jon Oestreich
COST: $149 and payment must be received prior to enrollment. WVS will support the cost of WVS Teachers to participate who have not completed the workshop. WVS Teachers who do not successfully complete the course will be billed the full cost of the course ($149). District teachers will have to cover costs on their own. A minimum of 6 participants is required. The remaining cost of this professional learning experience is being subsidized by the Wisconsin Digital Learning Collaborative (WDLC).
Cancellations are accepted only by signed fax (Attn: WVS to 715-453-7519) or email and must be received by the stated cancellation deadline of 48 hours prior to the course start date to mnickels@cesa9.org. Registration cancellations received on or after the course start date will not be eligible for a refund.
