Tech Integration Requests

I have been working on a better way for staff to request assistance with instructional technology in their classroom, and have created the form below for that purpose. If you'd like to learn something new, go over any form of technology in detail, work towards your technology goal, or navigate new technology (iPads, Reflector, Splashtop, Google Classroom, etc.) then please fill out the form below. Please indicate the time you'd like to meet in the form. I am available before or after school, during my Technology Integration period from 10-11, or my prep from 12:25-1:15. I do have some flexibility over the next month or so, and will do my best to schedule a time that works for you.

If you would like to take one of your tech half-day to work on a project or goal with more of a time committment involved, please email me and I can get the paperwork going for Staff Development. As always, come chat with me or feel free to email with questions!

Reflector and Splashtop

Over the past few weeks, Kim sent out some awesome and useful information on getting started with Reflector and Splashtop with your iPad. I wanted to take a moment to clarify what those mean and what they can do for you.

This application will help you to project the screen of your iPad onto your SMART Board. You can open apps and show their content, display your clock or timer for activities, and even play sound through your computer's speakers. To use it, follow Kim's emailed instructions for installing Reflector on your school computer. Once it is installed, complete the following steps:

  1. Ensure that your iPad and Computer are connected to the same WiFi network. When in doubt, select "Guest" for both your iPad and school computer.
  2. Open Reflector from your Applications (nothing will change on your screen, but you will see the word "Reflector" at the top left side of your screen.
  3. On your iPad, drag your finger up from the bottom. You should see the word "AirPlay."
  4. Click the "AirPlay" icon and search for your computer's name. Select the computer and touch the "mirroring" option.
  5. You should now see your iPad screen displayed on your computer. To end the session, drag your finger up from the bottom and un-select the "mirroring" option.

This application will allow you to control your school computer from your iPad from anywhere in the room (or school!) This will allow you to move around your classroom while still interacting with your computer. To use Splashtop, complete the following steps:

  1. Find the "Splashtop" app on your iPad (it is already installed) and open it.
  2. Follow the instructions to create a new Splashtop account.
  3. Once you have created your account, it will ask you to download "Splashtop Streamer for Mac" on your school computer.
  4. Follow the steps to install the streamer, and then login using your newly created Splashtop account.
  5. Ensure that your iPad and Computer are connected to the same WiFi network. When in doubt, select "Guest" for both your iPad and school computer.
  6. From here, open the Splashtop app on your iPad and you should now see your school computer. Click to connect, have the iPad automatically set your screen resolution and you should now be seeing your computer's screen on your iPad.
  7. There are several tools you can play with once you are familiar with the system.

If you have any questions or problems getting started, please fill out a tech request or chat with me in person about it and I'd be happy to help you get started.
