Please Bring Your Headphones to School

The Prairie LMC has recently seen an increase in students requesting headphones to borrow. We would like to remind students and families that headphones are included on the students' supply lists. Headphones are important for enhancing student learning, and students having their own set ensures students are ready to learn.

Lockdown Drill on September 21st

As required by the Illinois School Safety Drill Act (105 ILCS 128/20), during each academic year, schools must conduct a law enforcement lockdown drill. This drill shall be no later than 90 days after the first day of each school year.

Law enforcement lockdown drills must be conducted on days and times when students are normally present in the school building and must involve participation from all school personnel and students present at school at the time of the lockdown drill. The appropriate local law enforcement agency shall observe the administration of the lockdown drill.

Also required by the Illinois Safety Drill Act, we must notify you about the upcoming law enforcement lockdown drill and provide an opportunity for you to opt your child out of the drill.

The law enforcement lockdown drill will take place at Prairie Campus on Wednesday, September 21st, at 2:30 p.m. If you wish your student to be exempted from the law enforcement lockdown drill, please complete this Google Form.

Notes From Our Counselors

We want to share the topics that the school counselors will be covering this year. Each grade level counselor will go into the classroom to do Social Emotional Lessons (SEL) with the students. These lessons will cover a variety of themes such as respect, team building, problem solving and empathy. Some of the other topics we cover are bullying, positive mental health and the state mandated Erin’s Law (child sexual abuse awareness). If you would like to opt-out of the Erin’s Law curriculum, please submit this form to your grade level counselor.

Our approach is to teach students to make positive healthy choices for themselves. These lessons will occur throughout the school year. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s grade level counselor. We are looking forward to a great year!
