Weekly Update
February 29, 2020
March Is Here!
I have updated the master calendar with all the events that we have scheduled as of today. Make sure you check the calendar often to keep up with everything that is happening in the life of CGE!
Goalpost
Both of our teams did an amazing job at the competitions! Our fourth grade team won Best Design. Their trophy is displayed outside of the office for all to see.
Our Goalpost program is doing great things! Thank you Inga for your organization, and all of the teachers who work in this program. It is making a difference!
Surveys
Monday: 4th grade
Wednesday: 5th grade
Thursday: 3rd grade and Patty Cannon
It should take us about 20-30 minutes to go through this with your classes. It is difficult to give you the exact time that we will come, but I wanted you to be aware of the day. Let me know if you have any questions.
Teacher Training
While there may be varying opinions about Lucy Calkins Units of Study in our district, I want our school to remember that The Teacher's College mission is 100% focused on literacy and helping students to read and read well. At the end of the day, that is all that we want. Regardless of where you stand right now, continued reading of the units along with visiting the college helps bring clarity and additional knowledge about literacy instruction. Let's chose to focus on the good always. The good is that we have continued opportunites to learn from Lyndsey Reyes and Christy Curran. And...we get to visit NYC to see this work in action and learn more from top literacy researchers at the college. I see this as a blessing as our district continues on this journey.
We have a team going to New York in March, and there will be a fall and spring trip next year. I look forward to all of us being able to go and to what our team will bring back in March. :-)
PLC Conference
Teacher's College Homegrown Institute
The dates for this institute are June 15th-18th. Because of the cost of this institute, the district is in the early stages of deciding how many can attend. I wanted to get this information out so that we could determine interest from our school. With family vacations, this may not be an option to some.
If you would like to attend the institute, you must committ to the following:
*Be able to attend every day of the institute all day. You cannot attend for a portion of the day. We feel that we will have a waiting list for this, so we want total committment for these four days.
The district is making decisions about comp time offered now. If this is something that you are interested in, please let me know. I want to help everyone attend that wants to attend, so I need numbers in order to look at our budget. Mrs. Harrison said that if we have large numbers wanting to go, the schools could help pay. Look at your calendars and let me know.
Attendance
Please send Teresa names of students who did not complete the work by the end of the day Monday. She will go in and mark them absent for the 21st if there was no attempt to completing the work. Let me know if you have questions.
